First Med Change

For 23 years all I did was baby my TN with an ER visit once or twice a year. This is the first time I have actually started meds for my TN. I know I can't expect to find the perfect combination of meds on my first try...but I am so down in the dumps about my allergic reaction to Tegretol. I look like someone socked me in the chops! I have a red, hard, itchy bump with quite a bit of swelling under my left eye. The doctor called me back later this afternoon and told me to stop the Tegretol. He called in some Trileptal. I'm picking that up in the morning to start that. I was on Neurontin about nine months ago for the nerve damage in my lower back from the fusion and discectomy in 12/08. Just like the Tegretol, Neurontin seemed to work wonders from the get go...but it was the side effects that did me in! With the Neurontin I ended up in the ER on Morphine, Lasix, and Potassium. So much for that! I don't know if Baclofen is something that might benefit me or not. My neurosurgeon first suggested Lyrica but my insurance doesn't cover it unless it is a last resort. I know I am just being impatient. I just wonder how much garbage I'm going to have to go through until I am finally on the right road. I hate feeling so discouraged, because I really am thankful that someone is trying to help me. Thank God I found this site. I have already had the opportunity to talk to a few people that actually understand. They have helped me more than they know...in just in a few posts. Thank you to my new friends here...you are wonderful!
