Does anyone else have the sensation that half their face is "sliding off" the skull? I have this both during and between attacks. It is driving me bonkers! The sensation itself is not painful, but not numb either... more like when your face "wakes up" after a dental procedure but not as sensitive. I have checked for visible drooping and only a few times did it look like a small area of my lower jaw skin was droopy, but nothing major. Also, I can detect an exact line in the middle of my face where the sensation starts... weird! Anyways, just curious who else has this. Thanks!
You are not alone, you have described exactly the sensations a person has for TN 2, the extravagant odd feelings that can drive a person crazy. I have to take my medication before I eat, or those feeling come forward and in my case, it bothers me a lot in my ears too. I just wish that we could get back to the things that matter the most, instead of feeling like we are constantly just having dental work and our face is waking up from the drugs. Were is the justice............
I have try massaging both sides of my neck, about 1 inch below my ears at the same time, you can feel tiny bones moving and it gives me some relief. Give it a try and see if it works for you.........
I have had this type of feeling too. In seeing my neuro this past Friday he actually commented that he is seeing some asymetry in my face (I think he was referring to movement, following the pen with the eyes, etc).
When I morphed from Type I to Type II I didn't change my meds. I finally switched from Tegretol to Nortrypteline and it has made a great difference. The Nortryp seems to address the 'constant' symptoms better than the Tegretol did.
Yes, it is weird that we can pinpoint the EXACT location of the beginning and end of the TN Zones on our face.
The face is both more elevated and more prominent than the left/right side; the left/ right cheekbone is more prominent, the cheek itself is fuller, and the jaw is more prominent. It looks as though the left/right side for your face is sliding off.
Have any of you asked about Bells Palsy (may've spelled it wrong)? The symptoms you describe are similar to those of Bells. I haven't looked into to what causes it but it's worth a look and a question perhaps based on the definition of Bells and your symptoms.
I was first checked for Bells, by a chiropractor and my GP, before my diagnosis with TN as I had similar sensations but no physical change in the appearance of my face. I still sometimes feel the same way and often feel as if my face is twitching but there is no movement. Sometimes, I am baffled and amazed at what nerve issues can do even though there are no outward signs of sickness/distress. So are my doctors, so it's sometimes hard to get them to actually believe me when they can't see anything wrong and when my symptoms don't fit into the perfect little box of definitions of TN or ATN.
miami denied TN contrary to other doctors. implied i see a psychiatrist. today was bad, sore throat, leg cramps. lots of face pain. So what is it??? Elaine Iles said:

I can honestly say that before during and after attacks, my face feels like what your hand or foot would feel like after falling asleep and waking up. Mine is very painful. Hopefully yours will remain the same and not get painful. I have lots of numbness and even half of my tongue is numb at all times. My face does not drop tho.
Yeh, it's weird having this numbness on my right side. It feels like it's always drooping, but when you look in a mirror it isn't. Sometimes I feel like twoface from the Batman movie. But thank goodness I don't look like him. Nobody could ever prepare you for this feeling and only we in this group really understand it.
I get that sensation when my Migraines/TN issues arise, Face feels numb to the touch, but hurts like all H… inside, my Left side of my face droops, my eye gets really bad, plus my vision gets blurry. I have a line that splits my head literally in half, it stinks with mine, cause you can see exactly what side of my face is affected. One short term quick fix I found that works, if you have a doctor who will do triggerpoint injections, is get triggerpoint injections in my cheeks and neck on the affected side, and it seems to help…SHORT TERM, sorry for the caps, but gotta stress that, it atleast numbs the face and neck for half a day, so you can gain some relief
OMG, thats what I tell my wife all the time, I feel like 2 face from batman, Got the good side, and then I have the Zombie side of my face…

Thanks for your replies! I am sorry you all have so many issues, but at the same time I am glad we have each other to support and confirm one another's frustrations and questions. So, I am glad that someone others understand what I mean by describing this sensation. I pray you all have some peace soon somehow... at least a little :)
Oh- and I don't think I fit the Bells Palsy symptoms and have been checked for it, but was recently told my neuralgia is combo, so not sure if that is included in the numbness feeling...
i believe a numb tongue is the linguil nerve. i have it too. i have many of the same feelings as you.

I'm new to this forum but not to TN. Yes, I have the same feeling. My kids and I call it " the face melt" They say, "hey mom are you okay? Your face is melting again. With my last flare up, even my nose melted. The entire left side of my face feels numb, but painful. It literally makes me feel crazy. Unless you experience it, you cannot possibly understand this sensation.
omg! my face droops on my bad side (right) i show my husband because it makes me upset he jokes it off by saying i look like im just confused or have a question (because on eyebrow looks higher than the other) lol . i dont think he likes to know i have something wrong with me because he seems scared when im having a full blown attck :(
