Falling asleep in the middle of things

I’m on Lyrica 600mg/day, Baclofen 60mg/day, and right now, about 32mg of Dilaudid a day. o h my. that’s terrible. Before my hospitlaization a few weeks ago due to my Carbemazepine making my sodium too low, I was on 900mg/day of that as well, but not Dilaudid. The dilaudid has been added as of 2 weeks ago.

During a typical day, i will fall asleep doing just about anything. i’ve even fallen asleep painting a wall before. The paint brush was up on the wall as if I were going to stroke down any second. i’ve fallen asleep chopping veggies (yes, standing up), talking on the phone, talking to my boyfriend, driving (ack!), in the shower, and just about everywhere in the house.

Does anyone else have this problem? Does everyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

ok. thnk you very much. I appreciate that. yikes!! you take care too!

Hey Stephanie, I just added Lyrica but have quit taking it during the day as I can’t work when I am on it. I am on Lamictal, tapering down from 3600 mg/day of Gabapentin. Am going to add Triliptal but have not been able to pick it up or get my baseline blood test yet. I do not drive anymore b/c of the pain (constant with attacks of barely bearable pain) and the meds. :frowning: . The public transportation in Denver is very good though. Please be careful. Talk to you soon!

i can’t work while i’m on lyrica either, but i am in so much constant pain when i’m NOT on lyrica, that there is no way i could work WITHOUT lyrica. i don’t know how you do it! i’ll look into lamictal and gabapentin. never heard of them. thanks!

I also find myself falling asleep. I work at a desk all day and fight to keep my eyes open. My co worker has found me asleep before and couldn’t wake me. At first she thought I had a stroke or heart attack but she finally got me awake. The sleepiness is daily. I too, find myself wanting to nod off on my drive home from work. I also find that I have to take a nap everyday when I do get home. My husband thinks I’m a zombie. I take 1200-1600 mg of carbazepine and 600 mg of gabapentin daily.

I tried Lyrica last year and it was even worse for me. I could not stay awake. It was also way more expensive so I went back to these meds. The pain is still with me daily but not as bad (but bad enough if you know what I mean). I find if I miss my meds even for one dose, I will pay for it.

Christy

I think you just need to find what is right for you, and sometimes I don’t know if there is a combination for everyone. I am on Lamictal and Tegretol XR. . . I get very sleepy. However, when I was taking Gabapentin (Neurontin), it was like I was hammered all of the time and I had major major mood swings. My brother takes Gabapentin for Diabetic Neuropathy and can handle it just fine. I am only back to work part-time and have moved up to 30 hours, but can barely make that. Good luck to you.

Christy, i’m the same way. if i miss my dose, then 2-3 hours later, I’m in serious pain. I don’t know how you can work. i look and act so drugged all the time, i have no idea how anyone would even hire me. Thanks, Debbie. A lot of people have mentioned Gabapentin, but I havn’t tried that one yet. Maybe I’ll talk to the Doc. Trileptal isn’t doing a thing for me.

I just hold on to the thought of a nap at the end of the day.
