Did I make a mistake with Radiofrequency Ablation?

I had the Radiofrequency Ablation procedure a few years ago and have been pain free since. Did I make a mistake? Reading through the discussions here it appears that some people are very much against nerve damaging procedures. Why? Is Radiofrequency Ablation one of the procedures they are referring to?

From what i understand - if this is a nerve damaging procedure - it can work for a long time

However, if it ever stops working and you want an MVD - percentages go down somewhat on successful MVD because of nerve damaging procedures - I think I'm addressing what you are asking.

Hi. I am looking for a doc to perform an RFA (my initial one was botched). Would you mind sharing the name and location of your surgeon? I will travel anywhere. While my first RFA was a disaster, I can see that if done correctly, it could be quite helpful. Thank you! And congratulations on finding relief. I am so happy for you! Also, would you mind telling me if you have numbness? Or any other side effects? This would not deter me, but I like to go in with open eyes.

My surgery was done at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. My surgeon has since retired. Yes I still to this day have numbness and high frequency hearing loss on that side. I am still pain free but have recently been put back on a low dosage of Gabapentin because I have started feeling occasional minor ticks, very minor ticks maybe one or two a week.

Thanks so much for answering my question. I’m now trying a new approach-- applying for experimental treatment with stem cells/exosomes. My neurologist said she has used it on three TN patients and all three have gone into remission. If I can pass the extensive cancer screening, I will try that route. It is pricey at about 6k and little chance of insurance coverage. If I have any success, I will report back.

I am reporting back on the Exosome treatment. Unfortunately, it did not help me one bit, so while it works for some, I can’t make a recommendation from my personal experience. I do wish good luck to anyone who tries it.
