Hello to everyone I really need to go to the dentist for a cleaning but I am very scared. Has anyone had any pain after a cleaning?
hi Angela
Are you a member of the Dental group, they will welcome you. There is some good advice there about the best ways in which to handle dental appointments. All the best, I know it’s scary but it may not be too bad.
I avoided going to the dentist for 3 years (didn't go once I started with TN). Last Aug. I finally went and had to get quite a bit of work done: 4 cavities and deep periodontal cleaning under my gums. They numbed whatever side they were working on. I thought since my pain is one my right side, it would be the worst when they worked on that side. But since they numbed me very well, it was actually more painful when they worked on the left side because my rt side was not numb and keeping my mouth open, the dentist/hygienist touching my bad side, etc. Every time I go now, it is still very painful for me and I am useless the rest of the day. I usually get a friend to drive me so I can take a morphine before I go.
I know it has been a while since you posted this question. My advice to you is to go ahead and get it done before your teeth get really bad and you have to have a lot of work done. See if you can get a ride as you may not feel like driving after and don't make plans after in case you are feeling anything like I did after mine. Going to the dentist for us TNers, to me, is like going through a torture chamber, but it is a necessary evil. Hope this helps!
My dentist is so sweet to put the benzocaine on my gums before and during the cleaning. She applies it prior to beginning the cleaning and then once or twice during the cleaning. Whenever I raise my hand in pain, the hygienist w/ re apply. They only do it for tn patients, according to the dentist.
