Just had a dental appointment last week to have a crown put on, no root canal was needed. I was pain free up until then for a few months. What would the odds be that my dental appt. was the cause for it to come on again? Acupuncture seems to be helping, It takes away my pain for months at a time, so here I go again.
Each person is different so it is hard to say.
I spoke with my dentist today about this. In sept I had seen him just for a cleaning- I had been pain free on a low dose on triliptal for 18mo. A week after seeing him my pain started again and increased every week. The pain became intolerable and had I MVD in Nov. I am very nervous about making another appt. He discussed with me that visiting the dentist does not cause TN but it is a trigger- just like the wind or eating would be. Not everyone has the same triggers and for me it just so happens to be going to the dentist. In my particular situation, I have spoken with him, my neurosurgeon and neurologist and each seem very confident that future visits will not trigger my pain bc I have had the MVD. Doesn’t stop my anxiety from being sky high.
Thank you for the insight. Most likely that’s what set it off. Hopefully Saturday’s acupuncture appt. will work again.
I also had a dental appoinment 2 weeks ago to have an extraction and had also been pain free for several months. The next day my bottom canine tooth was throbbing and my gums were burning again..Only this time my upper gums where the extraction was were burning..I was ready for the pain to come back and had asked my doctor to renew my prescription to my medicine just in case...I'm glad I did...
