Hey Rick, had trouble with capital T following dental work. My dentist told me one of my old fillings on my affected tn side- left needed to be replaced. i used nitrous oxide gas and freezing for the procedure with great results. I then spent 2 days in bed with debilitating face pain. t#3 ++ and hoping for sleep. not sure what i could do different for better outcome. best of luck…maureen
I’m sorry, Rick. I don’t have any advice for you but wanted to say that I share your fear. My TN had been dormant for 5 years until I had some dental work done last year that triggered new attacks. My dentist told me not to come back until the pain was completely gone.
My attacks are now so intermittent and inconsistent, I can’t imagine I’ll ever go back even though I still have work that needs to be done. I’m seeing a neurologist on Monday for the first time since I was diagnosed in 2004. I am currently having a bad attack that started last night and just awoke from a 3 hour neurontin induced nap. I’m either awake in pain or asleep because the drugs that help with pain knock me out.
Rick,
I’m sorry. I have a broken tooth on my TN side that needs a crown. It has been broken since Nov. I am so scared to go to the dentist. But there are some posts here about having the numbing shot without epinephrine. I asked my dentist about that and he is aware of that.

Dentist visit was a day from Hell-
I asked Stephanie to call my dentist office and request a couple of valium to take before the office visit.
He normally calls them in for me as he understands my situation.
He started to numb me as I was having a tooth pulled.
I kept feeling the tooth coming out and was in pain.
He stopped 4 different times to give more novacaine.
He finally said he was just going to"try and pull it out real fast"
The tooth shattered and the roots were still in my gum.
He spent the next 30 minutes drilling and picking that root out of my gum.
Oh my God I am in so much pain right now.
All of this happened on my right side(TN).
I have used this dentist for years and have refered a bunch of people to him.
He always does great work so I am wondering what happened today.
The novacaine has wore off now and the pain is off the chart.
Oh my Rick, that is awful!!! I am sitting here contemplating dental work myself. I had a root cannal done trying to cure the pain ( later discovered it was TN) The dentist only put in temp filings that have now been in a year. Need to have permanent ones done. I am terrified. I have not got my pain under control as of yet. Even if I did I am scared to trigger the big one.
I wish you and everyone luck with your dental ordeals, happy pain free days :)!
I went to the dentist yesterday for a simple impression for my final set of dentures. Took a Percocet about 30 minutes before the appointment. Needed a second one just as they were finishing up. Set off a TN1 attack. I could not even bare the though of doing any real dental work with this monster. I did talk with the folks in the office that they should make sure that folks like us take a full set of meds before we go in and maybe even consider putting us out due to the pain we would feel. I have to go back in 2 weeks for the final fit and I am scared of that. Rick you are a strong man than I. Hang in there.
