Hi all, who has had their nerve damaged on purpose (e.g. surgically) and what ill effects have they had?
My neurosurgeon said that if he goes in when he does the MVD and doesn't find anything (if I am the 5% of people that have nothing impeding the nerve) he wants to clamp it off. Which would obviously damage the nerve impulses. It sounds a little worrying (in case of things like anaesthesia dolorosa) and my husband is going but isn't some numbness better than the TN pain.
Help? Sounds pretty drastic to me?

hes good for this kind of knowledge and guidance!!
I don’t know anything about clamping off the nerve but I do know about a damaged nerve. My nerve is permantly damaged due to treatments I have tried to get better. Now I am worse than I ever was. I had 2 failed MVD so I tried cyberknife. About 3 months after my 2nd cyberknife, the numbness started in the corner of my mouth and just spread throughout the entire left side of my face, head, eye, mouth, etc. You would think “numbness”, yay! Yes if it was just numb then I would be in great shape compared to what I was. But, nope, Dry eye, severe pain and TN1 symptoms added to my TN2. I wouldn’t let anyone damage your nerve if you can prevent it. I was also willing to be numb if that was the only side effect. I hope this helps and good luck to you!!!
