Can anyone answer question please

I was wondering if with TN can a specific tooth be felt that sends jolts through jaw. Burning in bottom jaw line. I already had root canal in tooth due to thinking it was bad tooth when it was TN. But with meds had no pain until about 3weeks ago and even with adding meds about every 3or 4 days i get extreme pain and shocks. This is when i can feel what feels like a specific tooth and jaw burning. Is this normal. I am so tired of pain looking for any answers would help. Much appreciated.

My TNs always start 'as toothache'. So far only twice tooth was a problem and root canal treatment needed. Nevertheless, type of pain changes in time, tends to progress and spread to different nerve branches. It wasn't with first RCT (which happened after receiving TN diagnosis). I still remember dentist's surname, he was awesome. I'm ageing badly.

Mine starts with my top right back tooth and spreads from there, most of the time, and my trigger seems to be food related. My dentist says no problem and i have not figured out exactly what food sets it off yet.

thanks for the info. I really appreciate it…

That is how mine started. One tooth and unnecessary root canal. I am two years in with bilateral ATN and that one tooth still hurts! Yes it sends out jolts and all kinds of lovely sensations. That is where all of my pain started. It has spread much further then that now. I have had to increase my medication every 3-5 months since to try to stay on top of the pain. Not sure how long I can keep that up!

I have to share this. It took me 30 years to get my diagnosis on TN and I have now confirmed it with two doctors. But I have to tell you that one time I had a terrible toothache. I called the dentist and scheduled a root canal - they know me well, I've had a lot of dental work - when I got there I was told that I had already had a root canal in that tooth! I felt like a fool. To this day, I continue to get a toothache in that tooth but now I know it is the TN. I had the dentist give me an XRay of all of my teeth so that now I will know which ones have had root canals, etc. When I get a toothache I can just check my XRay picture and see if I need to even call him.

Cathy, yes TN is there and through the years I sometimes went to my dentist up to 3 times in one week. I used to get pain in teeth that had root canals. I even had teeth pulled to see if the pain would go. To this day even after MVD last Septmber when the weather gets cold or I am outside I have one tooth that just lets me know that TN is still lurking. I may not have facial pain at present but this tooth is a bug bear. Keep your affected area of your face warm and this will help
All the best
