I don’t know about my bite changing, but I have struggled to get pain relief , I went to the dentist last fall just to be sure it wasn’t a tooth thing… The only thing I came away with was that one of my bottom teeth is sensitive. But upon X-ray no sign of anything!
So my dentist referred me to an endodontist just for consult, and I haven’t gone yet.
Could my TN be causing this tooth sensitivity or what?
Also I’ve noticed I have started clenching in my sleep. Maybe that’s it? I don’t know…
In any event Pjunge, there’s no harm in seeing your dentist to have a cautious look, making sure you explain your TN…I did fine , although I struggled with the X-ray film thingy in my mouth. It reassured me that I didn’t need a root canal.
Good luck to you, Mimi
My pain first manifested, my teeth were so sensitive that breathing in sometimes triggered. It does depending on how long since my last med dose.
I thought that's what it was at first, that they were so sensitive because of the nerve that any touch seemed bigger than it was.
I now realize that my teeth have actually moved! Specifically I think the two molars at the back. I realized it when my meds started working and I slowly started chewing over there. I cautiously chewed gum and no pain but it felt like when I get my braces years ago.
So I'm sure those molars have moved, but I don't know why. I have a follow up neuro appt February 1st, I plan on asking about it then and for a dental referral, I approached my mom's dentist and she said she wouldn't see me because she doesn't know enough about TN. I respect that.
I must have had TN for some time when my jaw discs slipped into incorrect position. I think this was mainly because I stopped chewing on the teeth that hurt because of TN, I was also stressed out because of pain and I think I might have started clenching during sleep (I heard people in pain and those with a lot of stress tend to grind or clench their teeth often, which can then lead to TMJ disorder).
You, however, said that you don't experience any TMJ symptoms, so I'm not sure what that could be. I know that in some people who wore braces the teeth start to re-adujst themselves after some time, so it's not that unlikely that your teeth have actually moved.
That’s how I feel now, it’s a relief to chew over there, almost massaging in a way.
I’m making note of the scenarios everyone has painted and seeing bits and pieces of what I’m experiencing.
For the jaw slippage, was that related to TN directly or a result of trying to work around it?

its weird i actually feel relief when i am eating and dont feel pain then is that true with you also or does it hurt to eat?
My bite has definitely changed from chewing only on the non-TN side. My dentist confirmed it at the last visit and even shaved off a molar to help correct the change. The bite is improved, but I think it's continuing to change. I also have TMJD, which doesn't help.
