"Bible"

Good evening,

I am fairly new to the site. Several weeks ago many people were discussing a book for TN patients, and referred to it as their “Bible”. I cannot find the name or author of this book and can no longer find the list of reading material.

Anybody able to help?

Thank you,

Kathy (Bilateral TN)

Kathy,

The book is called Striking Back. I added a link to Amazon where you can check it out. It is a must-read for anyone with TN.

It's the MOST important book of hundreds that I own!!!!

I'm glad you are seeking it out -- it's a good companion reference to bounce things off people here! AND to show family and friends.

Thank you so much for the information. I’ve only been at this 4 months and need some reading material.

Hugs,

Kathy

Wonderful! I can’t wait until it comes in!

Speaking of which, does anyone know if there is an ebook of this? I don’t read paper books anymore and would like to get an electric copy of it.

There is also another book titled Trigeminal Neuralgia edited by Dr. Peter Jannetta, published Oxford University Press in 2011. It is for medical professionals but I have found it extremely valuable. It’s pricey, I got it on Amazon.
I’ll give the table of contents here:

  1. A History of Trigeminal Neuralgia
  2. Anatomy and Physiolgy
  3. Typical and Atypical Symptoms
  4. Medical Therapy: The Dentist’s Perspective
  5. Face Pain in the Front Lines
  6. Current Medical Therapy
  7. Differential Diagnosis, Look - Alike Diseases, Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia
  8. The Evaluation of the Preoperative Patient
  9. Current Operative Proceedures: Overview
  10. Percutaneous Stereotatic Rhizotomy
  11. Glycerol Rhizotomy
  12. Percutaneous Balloon Compression
  13. stereotactic Radiosurgery
  14. Mircrovascular Decompresssion
  15. Endoscopic Vascular Decompression
  16. Future Medical Therapy

Not only did this book answer a lot of questions for me, it also helps me formulate my own questions.

Hope this is helpful for someone else.
Bella

Thank you Bella for taking the time to list everything above. My brother has generously offered to order that book for me. I appreciate your help very much. Have a great, pain free day!

Amazon would know LOL

Kathleen, I hope the book will bring you some clarity. Hope you’re having more pain free days.
Bella

Thank you Bella! It should arrive soon and I’m eager to learn more about this condition that I now have bilaterally x 5 months.

Have a great, pain-free weekend,

Kathy

Another book that may deserve to be in the libraries of TN patients is titled "Insights -- Facts and Stories behind Trigeminal Neuralgia", by Dr Joanna Zakrzewska. I understand it is on the pricy side too, but I've watched Dr Zak work for close to 18 years, and she is very knowledgeable.

See http://www.amazon.com/Insights-Stories-behind-Trigeminal-Neuralgia/dp/0967239346/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1361687389&sr=1-2&keywords=Joanna+Zakrzewska

Thanks for taking the time to write. I will certainly check into that one as well. All the best, Kathy
