Are there statistics that show how many people actually stop having TN?

After one month of barely working my job and adjusting to meds...I worked a full 40 hour week last week. By Friday I felt horrible...Saturday morning I awoke with a huge fever blister on my left lip(side of ATN) and a temp of 100. I ached all over and my jaw and ear pain intensified. Today, ( Monday) I went to my doctor. He said," probably something viral". It leaves me judging I will never be able to return to my job if I am going to be ill afterwards! He said, "don't give yourself a life sentence. TN leaves lots of people after a couple of months!"

I want to believe this but from everything I have read...I don't feel real positive about it. I am a 59 yr old woman just recently diagnosed.

Does anyone know if there are statistics on how many people actually fully recover from ATN?! I have the shooting intense pain of TN in my lower jaw but have throbbing aching in my left lower teeth and jaw and ear all of the time. I would love to know the statistics on this.

Thanks and a peaceful night to you all,

Yvonne

I’m sorry your not feeling well. TN really does mess up our life’s. I don’t know about satistics but I have heard of members going into remission. I thin one of our newer member Granny was in remission for years. So it can happen. Though I’m unsure if TN ever really goes away. Red would have better info on this than me.

I’m sorry your doctor is giving the it will go away in few months. My doctors did that to me for the first six months. I’m not sure why they give such false hope on TN magically going away. Have you checked into the procedures for tn. These normally give long lasting relief. I wish I could make you feel better or have better. Advice for you. Hopefully somebody else will chime in here and give so better info to you. I hope you feel better soon, and have pain free night.

Hi Yvonne,
I had TN for 8-9 mths when I was first diagnosed, after several weeks I was able to wean off ALL meds and I was in remission for 8 YEARS!!!
It came back 2 yrs ago and with a vengeance…
So there are people who experience remissions, but there are also people who have TN for great lengths of time.
There is no cure for TN. That we know of…YET!

There are only a variety of surgical procedures, medication and alternative therapies that help buy pain free time.

The one thing we do know is that although there are some commonalities between us with TN, we each experience it differently and we each respond to treatments differently.

There needs to be more research.
All that being said, YOU could experience remission, you could find a therapeutic level or combo of meds that allow you to function and work.
It takes time. Don’t label yourself due to your age, or any other factor, there is ALWAYS hope!

I worked part time and led a busy life ( kids, volunteer work, caring for sick parent etc) all at 800 mg of Tegretol , for a yr 1/2.

Most important thing you can do is inform yourself about TN, research, read, inform those closest to you, and advocate for yourself, getting pain control of course is first and foremost.
It does take time (trial and error) to find the right med (s) for you, most of the meds commonly prescribed take time to build in your system, some have slow release components that are tolerated better.

Stress and viral illness are not fun (TN or not) so take care of you, be gentle with yourself.
(((( hugs ))))
