I’ve had no success with medications. They have taken the edge off of the pain a bit. I’m never pain free. Has anyone had surgery? I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon this week. Any thoughts on surgery?
There are a few threads on MAD surgery. Try searching MVD in the discussions and I’m sure you’ll find plenty of responses.
I had an MVD with type 2 pain which was low odds to begin with. It only helped for 8 weeks. If you have type 1 then your odds are much better.
It's brain surgery, has risks, but I'd do it again.

MVD is cranial surgery…
Most of us with no pains and no meds… Are not posting any more… They are out living life!
Please do NOT accept gamma or cyber surgeries/procedures
Until and unless you have researched MVD…
AND ONLY with a TOP TN SURGEON … Even if you have to travel

It can make or break your outcome!
I had MVD on both the right and left sides in 2013, and would do it again! Currently pain and medicine free
Best of luck to you
Thank you for the comments. I’m not leaning toward gamma. How long of a recovery time?
I started a new job as a programmer 9 days after surgery. But that's not typical....I'd say plan on a couple weeks, 3-4 weeks.

Not bad for recovery. Thank you for the information. Where in Michigan did you have your surgery?
Thank you!

Peter had one in 2001 and it lasted for 5 years then the pain came back
Did you repeat the procedure?
I think peter is getting ready for his second now or soon.
Mine was in a small hospital for dr casey… Trenton michigan
They gave us an apartment in dearborn…same price as a hotel…$90 night for two bedroom apt! About 25 min from small hospital.
I would do it again in 5 or 10 years if i had to!
but casy will retire someday… My second choice is dr. Lim in baltimore

I hope your appointment goes well. Keep us posted.
I too have an appointment with a neurosurgeon Monday, 4/7. I am looking forward to it and I've been counting the days down for the past 3 weeks.
I live in NC and the neurosurgeon I will see, Dr. Tater, is listed on this website under Dr's. Dr Tater was also recommend by a member in 'Living with TN'. I also know the PA I will see, my interim Choir Director at Church.
Mary I will pray hope you will find closure to this terrible ailment we all have. I am praying I will find closure too.
I also went through MVD - several months of recovery due to complications. Now almost a year later, I am pain free, medication free, and LOVING life again.
here is a link to my posts regarding the surgery and the complications.

Do not be surprised if you are not pain free right after surgery. It does not mean the surgery failed. The nerve did not get damaged over night, it will not heal over night. My neurosurgeon told me it could take up to a year to get good pain relief from MVD surgery.
That's good information to have. Thank you. I see the neurosurgeon this Friday.
I have Type 2 also. You said it lasted 8 weeks. Did youget a lesser degree of discomfort after the 8 weeks?
