There are a few threads on MAD surgery. Try searching MVD in the discussions and I'm sure you'll find plenty of responses.

Yeah the pain fully returned 8 weeks after MVD. At 6 weeks I started to feel slight pain then it increased significantly back to full force.

I have Type 2 also. You said it lasted 8 weeks. Did youget a lesser degree of discomfort after the 8 weeks?

The idea of having life pain free and then it coming back almost makes me sick. I’ve had ATN since 2000. I’ve been blessed until recently to have a very slow progression. My first neuro visit is scheduled for July. I have such a good PCP that I’m apprehensive of seeing a new doc, but the rapid progression supports taking this next step. I find all of you who have surgery to be very brave. Some of the possible side effects from the surgery would eliminate my ability to do my job, so I have not considered surgery yet. However, I continue to read all the discussions on them because I feel it is the way I must go very soon. Mary, I hope you are pain free very soon!
Hey Flakakara, I take it you aren't able to try a tricyclic antidepressant?
The first med I tried was gabapentin and it made me a zombie, I took 2700mg/day. It only helped the pain for a few days while adjusting to a higher dose, then it would quickly fade.
I went to a new neuro who gave me nortriptyline + oxcarbazapine instead of gabapentin and it worked amazingly well for a few months. To this day, nortriptyline has helped more than oxycontin, oxcarbazapine, neurontin, etc. for me...
My main problem is the ATN affects my eye, which becomes debilitating if I don't get it under control. When I move my eye left/right I get an ice pick stabbing pain behind it that makes it water. The antidepressants helped more than anything thus far....
Shindig: I haven’t tried tricyclic antidepressants. Until recently the progression was being held at bay by what I was doing (or at least slower progression than expected).
