Any one have bad effects from gabibentin?

My 1600 a day carbomazipine was no longer working, so the doctor gave me gabibentin to add with. Its bad enough I barely function with carbomazipine dizzy contantly, but adding the other I couldn't even get out of the chair so I stopped. I have a second opinion with a specialist on the 22 of may, soonest i could in. My doctor says i need to stay on carbmmazipine but I can';t deal with the dizziness I fell down the stairs the other day I was so dizzy, I don't know what else they will do for me, my doctor refuses to do the surgeries, i checked into the gamma knife one doesn't look to bad to do

Hello

I am taking about the same, yes the side effects are horrid at the beginning.- yes I fell too. I started at a too high level so I went to the Pharmacist and she helped me out greatly. This is how I take my meds now

8:00 AM 900 mg Teva-Gabapentin

12:00 PM 900 mg Teva-Gabapentin

4:00 PM 900 mg Teva-Gabapentin

8:00 PM 400 mg Carbamazepine-CR

First I started at 300 mg each and every 5th day added one pill to get to this level, so I had a pain but as I increased the dose the pain faded.

Set an alarm clock to take it the same time each day to keep an even amount in your system. Also big glass of water and food each time. Carbamazepine made me sleepy so we switched it to the evening dose, also the CR is extended release so I get about 10 - 12 hours with it so I can sleep threw the night.

It took over a month to get to those levels above and now the pharmacist said it would be another 6 to 8 weeks for the side effects to level out. Which I can say now there is a light at the end of tunnel. Things are started to be a bit more even now. But work with your pharmacist; starting and stopping makes everything worse when I did it. Hope this helps - Good luck

Hi, I couldn’t tolerate Neurontin ( gabapentin ) I had a lot of dark thoughts/ feelings like a deep depression that came on suddenly and I couldn’t handle it.

Many of our members here have great success with it though.

I switched to slow release Tegretol and that worked better for me. My Neuro added Baclofen to help boost the Tegretol. Maybe that’s an option for you?

It should be your choice regarding surgeries or procedures not your doctors. You can always ask your doctor for a Consult with a neurosurgeon to get opinions, doesn’t mean you have to get a procedure, but it’s good to inform yourself of your options.

If the Tegretol ( carbamazepine) isn’t working well, there are quite a Few other meds you can try…it takes time to find the right med(s) I hope you find relief soon.

(( hugs )) Mimi
