He said it is worst than toothache but he as no top teeth !!! Can anyone help or give us abit of advice or even if anyone as also experience this type of thing thank you xx
I'm sorry that you are going through this.
What type of medication does he take? Sometimes an increase is needed or a different medication.
I have Type 2 and am on Amitriptyline. I had to increase it about a month ago because pain was breaking through.
Hi,the medication he is on is1200mg aday, and I thought that was quite a high does ,
Carbamazepine this is name of medication ,
I'm not to sure about dosages with Carbamazepine. I'm sure others will chime in that have experience with that drug.
Sometimes another drug needs to be added on or tried. Do you have a doctor or specialist that is overseeing all of this?
No only the normal gp, he had MRI scans when Roy first got tn2 then was put on this medication and the dosage just kept going up to the level it is at now. But then he went a full year with no pain now all this as started up again but it is in his gums and face now .
He needs to go back to his GP. I would ask for a referral to a neurologist asap. Some people do go into remission with this but it can also go the other way and get worse. Don't wait for that to happen more than it already is.
He needs to find out if he can increase the med he is on or add another to the mix. Since he is on an anti-convulsant he may need to try a tricyclic antidepressant such as Lyrica, Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline. Sometimes people use them in conjunction. Tricyclic antidepressants can be very good for Type 2 pain. I am on Amitriptyline.

See if you can get him some lidocaine mouthwash
And lidocaine face cream. ASAP from GP
I had to add gabapentin to my carbamazapine years ago. The combination of the two really made a difference for me.
