Any advice for dentist visits?

Hi everyone.

A few years ago I had a tooth snap right off. Saw a lovely dentist who was very sympathetic to someone with TN and he found an abscess on the x-rays that he thought could of been there for up to a year by the size of it (he was hoping it was the cause of my TN, sadly no). The abscess had basically killed off my tooth.

Monday I chipped a tooth. Not your usual snap off a point, it's in a weird place which makes me worried. I immediately rang around and found a dentist that offers IV sedation (the previous one was when I was living in another city). I have an appointment tomorrow for the consult to see what is wrong. The actual dental work doesn't worry me as I'll be getting IV sedation for it whatever it is. What does stress me out is the remaining 2 teeth look dodgy and now one has chipped. Because of TN none of us would know if we have toothache like a normal person and go get it fixed early :( I don't want 3 missing teeth in a row and I am NOT getting root canals on my TN side, no freaking way. I now have a horrible taste in my mouth so there's infection somewhere.

Does anyone have any advice on how to survive the consult, mirrors and hook things and x-ray plates in your mouth? My TN is a lot worse than last time as it's about 2 years down the track. I'm currently on Tegretol XR, nortriptyline and take tramadol for long attacks.

You are so far away! I would take extra 1 tramadol AND Tell them so,they know about it!

Yeah I struggle now I am back on tegretol with the tramadol as tegretol makes tramadol less efficient (it does that to a lot of other drugs). I plan on doping myself up a little lol! :D

My new dentist is very good with me,she is very very gentle.I went there last week and week before as i do have a problem 'ish' tooth, its my top right back molar,i have bone loss,no decay but bacteria gets in,so it gets cleaned, and i keep it as clean as i can. But you never know if its a tooth or the pain. I do get nervous but when i come out, shes never left me in pain (touch wood). i am back this friday as my right side face looks puffy but i cant see or feel infection and if theres an infection you would normally know (again i guess infections can go un detected). Just have faith in the dentist,i have with my new one and i hope it continues this way
