A positive MVD surgery experience and outcome

Hi Rick

Thank you for the positive info. I am having MVD tomorrow and I am nervous. I have read everything I could get my hands on and your story is not as scary!!! thanks God Bless!!!

I wish you the best of luck. It is certainly natural to be nervous. Think positively. MVD gives you a very good chance of returning to your pre-TN "state". We'll all be thinking of you.

Let the fear turn to thoughts of freedom of no tn
I’m on day w nothing but a few twangs
Also SUPER sleepy AND inscision pain is subsiding

Thank you so much for sharing your story!!! It is always nice to hear the good stories along side the bad ones. I am having my MVD surgery in FOUR days at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. The nerves are DEFINITELY starting to kick in!!!!!!

So find a few pics etc that remind u of our fav things like I brought my favorite golf ball that is stamped with TN Survivor on it along with small items from loved ones

Albee you had MVD and you are doing good??? Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh!!!!! I am sooo happy.... I am smiling from ear to ear right now. :D

Hi Rick, I am very happy for you, that's awesome. Yes being able to do anything without pain is so exciting, a new life. You're always waiting for it though. I don't think the fear goes away for a while. Enjoy your pain free days. :) :)

Linda

Yes Min and no tn pains
A few twangs but no pains
Afraid I may have a minor cfl but who knows could be cold coming on …

Good luck Sara. The prospect of surgery is daunting but the prospect of no TN pain is magnificent. Stay as postive as you can and know that you are giving yourself a good chance at being free from pain. I/we wish you the best

Hi Rick Im doing this surgery on April 11 and so glad to see how this went for you. How are you feeling now?

Hi Rick!

Thank you so much for your encouraging testimony. This gives me such hope and gives me a good picture of what I can expect. I do think finding a good sergeon with a good record is crucial. I have a question. Are you off your meds completely and did you regain your memory? Did the teflon get glued into place? Thanks! Kimburlee

Hi Lisa, I feel great. The residual numbness I had disappeared totally after 3 months. I am not as "good as new" none of us are LOL, but TN is gone, I trust ( and hope), forever.

Good luck with your MVD. You are, in my estimation, giving yourself the best chance at eradicating TN pain. I wish you much success.

Rick

Hi,

I was weaned off all the meds after about 3 weeks or so. It took a couple more months in my estimation to be totally "out" of my system. I am very happy to say the mental fog from the Tegretol/Carbamazepine is gone. I appear to have regained all the mental accuity I had before I started on the meds. I asked my surgeon to insert some additional common sense into my head while he was in the neighborhood but alas that does seem to have occurred.

The medicines disabled me and I would be still be disabled if it were not for my MVD surgery. Its not for everyone, but I feel it gives one the best chance at FIXING the problem. My understanding is that the Teflon padding naturally congeals into place after the surgery as a function of the body's healing.

I wish you the best of luck. My intention in sharing my story was/is to give some hope to all facing a decision like I did. My only regret is that I wasn't able to have had the MVD surgery sooner. If you've done your "homework" on, by who and where its to be done

then I think you should have every confidence. Good luck!!

Rick

Anyone had the MVD done at jefferson hos. in phil.

Hey Rick why did you someone to monitor your hearing?

Standard procedure as far as I know. There is a potential for hearing nerve damage as I understand it. Small but worthy of respect apparently.

Rick–thank you for sharing your positive story. It gives people hope. When dealing with chronic pain, sometimes that is all people can live for. I too am lucky enough to have had a successful MVD four years ago. The pain is gone but the memory stays forever.

"The pain is gone but the memory stays forever"

Thats the truth . Glad to hear you continue to be pain free.

My sole intention in sharing was to give others some hope that they too can get rid of their pain.

Rick, thanks so much for sharing your experience! I love hearing all the details, it helps calm my fears a little.
