I am like Nir constant burning pain in the tooth after dental procedure
from the other way i am like Rick a pressure of the cerberlle artery....
i guess i am looking after knowing if there are a lot of people that did the MVD, the vessel was moved away from the nerve, and still pain was not relieved...are they a lot of this kind precisely, i am interested in this statistic
And blder1 you confused me i guess the only difference between us is the pain sensation, did it was inner or external, was your cheek involved? couldent touch your face or eat when episode attack? was it episodes? i understand you have the electric shock attacks sensation not the constant burning?
how much branches were involved?

Nir, just wanted to tell you for what it's worth, my pain also started spontaneously after a dental cleaning. About 4 days later to be exact. For the four years I had it, mostly I had the shocking TN1 pain. There were also times I had constant pain under my teeth and jaw when I was in really bad flareups. If you have been told you have a compression visible, I would not rule out MVD giving you relief. My pain was all dental and "logically" it should have been treated locally. I went from doctor to doctor trying to find a cause and they could find nothing. Finally, a neurosurgeon thought he saw the compression on my nerve. The doctor who actually did my surgury says many such compressions do not even show up on MRI. He found two on my nerve when he opened my head. I have not felt pain in my teeth since I woke up from surgery. Do not rule out MVD if you have a competent surgeon who thinks this may help you. It could be the cure you are searching for. Just my two cents. Best of luck!
Nir, I still read this forum occasionally because it helped me so musch when I was suffering. I actually found my surgeon through the suggestion of someone on another TN forum. If I can help others by sharing my experiences, I want to do so. No one should suffer endlessly with TN if there are cures that could help them.
Ravit, my pain involved only 3rd branch and was felt only under my bottom right teeth. It wasn't in my cheek. I could trigger the shocking pain by touching two certain teeth with my tongue, by eating or by talking. When I had really bad flareups that side of my jawline would ache and sometimes swell.
thanks bloer1. thank u a lot. so i understand no constant burning, yes electric shokes. thanks god and doctor no more :)

This is marvellous, I too had a successful MVD, no pain whatsoever. I was off all medication. No after pain , great, wonderful.3 years later WHAM!!!! Same pain in identical place, back on Tegretol etc, etc. I hope you stay well, I really do, but do not forget to enjoy this time, as it can come back with a vengeance!!!!
Hi Rick, I am so happy that you had a good result with your MVD. I had TN for over 5 years, nothing seemed to help. My neurosurgeon looking at my MRI suggested Gamma Knife, since I am over 70yrs old now, she said that my veins are not as flexible any more therefore she suggested GN. I had my GN on Sept. 25 this year and so far have a lot of relief. Norby.
I am very happy to hear of your success with GK. . I hope it has been successful in eliminating your pain forever.
I am happy to say all is well on my end after 2+ months. No TN pain at all.....AMEN! Norby said:

wow, thank you Rick for sharing. I am working through the process of getting the scans done now as the precursor to MVD in JAN and I am super anxious about the entire thing. Thank you again for sharing
Glad to hear you are having the MRI's and considering ( or having) MVD. If MVD is appropriate it gives one a very good chance of eliminating TN pain.
Its normal to be anxious. Let me know if I can help.
Best,
Rick

Hi i am so glad i found this positive story. Like you said there are so many negative ones out there. i am having my surgery monday next the 14th. I live in Dublin, Ireland and am so looking forward to cleaning my teeth properly..I was diagnosed in may last year but had it about 3 years ago too but no one knew what it was. Your story has eased my nerves and i hope to post a positive story too in a few weeks. Thanks so much...
Sinead, I’m glad you finally got a diagnosis and can try surgery. I also went years being undiagnosed. I had my MVD Nov 5. My happiest day in the hospital was the day I was able to finally brush my teeth properly and with cold water! I had not been able to do that for 4 years. My surgeon happened to walk in a few minutes after and I was crying because I was so happy. It was such a small thing but meant SO much to me. I hope that you can do that too again next week! I’ll be thinking about you next Monday from New Jersey, USA.
I’m so happy you continue to do well. I understand about being so happy being able to brush your teeth without the fear of pain.
Sinead, we will be thinking of you!
So glad my story was of benefit to you. MVD, while not a solution for all, in many cases can alleviate one's suffering.
As for me, I am pleased to say all of the residual numbness ( in reality very minor, tongue, cheek) has disappeared and I have had no TN pain since the surgery. I have been very fortunate.
I/we wish you all the best. Please keep us posted.
Best,

It is your story and many other stories with positive outcomes that influence others in making their decisions. I continue to do very well after my MVD in Oct. If our stories can give others HOPE, then our time has been spent wisely.
I am glad you continue to do well. I feel confident that your medical team FIXED it. (If I didn't have MGH and Dr Eskandar nearby in Boston I would have gone to Hopkins too.)
HOPE is the word. ( RI's mottto too btw, lol) It was pretty disconcerting when I contemplated MVD to read very litttle about positive outcomes.
I hope our stories give hope and optimism to anyone contemplating MVD to rid themselves of this terrible affliction.
Best,
Rick
