I was wondering if any of you have had a nodule on the internal auditory canal show up on an MRI? I will be meeting the neurologist soon but I really don't know what this means or if it has anything to do with the trigeminal neuralgia.
I only know that I had an MRI once where they were looking for a tumor because hearing in my right ear was worse than my left at age 40. It's called acoustic neuroma -is a benign slow-growing tumor of the nerve that connects the ear to the brain. It can cause face pain. But it might not be in the right place of where you are describing. I would like to hear (no pun intended) what the neurologist says.
I didn't have an acoustic neuroma.
Thanks for your reply. The MRI says that it is suspicious for a right intracananicular acoustic schwannoma. My hearing is fine but I do have vertigo after flying and boating. I just hope that it is not an additional problem on top of all of the other issues I have had. I am hoping that this is what is causing the face/ear pain.
It's also called acoustic neuroma.
Then you should read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestibular_schwannoma
It looks like you have some choices to make. If this is causing the face pain it may stop by taking it out. However you will lose all hearing in that ear permanently. I think this is what I was told. But if it keeps growing it can cause a lot more problems. Personally, I would lose my hearing in one ear for my life back. Ask your neuro about the hearing loss.

I had a dark spot on MRI that showed some where in my brain. Im not sure if a nodule and dark spot are the same, so I’m not sure how much help this will be. Any hoot, my neurologist called me before the hospital did so I would not freak out or not as bad. The location of the spot is a depending matter if it will be the cause or affect your TN. For example the spot I had is nothing to worry about and is on the wrong side in aiding on have an affect for my tn. If the spot was on the other side then it would of have been the cause for the amount of pain I have. This all according to my neurologist. I would suggest not googling about this as most likely it may end up scaring the poop out of you (it did for me). Your neurologist should ho over the MRI and the findings on your follow up appointment. Sorry I can not give you anything better, I hope you get the needed answers on this.
