Hi All!
I’ve had TN for about 10 years, diagnosed a year ago. It used to be a yearly thing, which because a twice a year thing. i am now at the point where I have having an attack every 2 weeks and each attack is lasting about 3-4 days. It is interfering with my job and my personal life. I have been to the doc alot recently asking him about what I can do to alleviate this pain.
Here is what I have been given:
Toradol
Atenelol
Neither of these medications did anything for the pain.
Last week my TN moved to my right side, it has always been on the left. I went back to my doc and he gave me a prescription for Maxalt. I asked him why he was giving me a migraine medicine and he said sometimes it helps.
Frankly I don’t think he is taking me seriously. I had an MRI last year which was inconclusive. There are lesions on my brain but not enough to indicate MS. He has not referred me to a neurologist, he keeps telling me that this pain is a migraine and I know it’s not. This is so frustrating!!
Has anybody had any success with these medicines? He did mention Lyrica as well.
Kelly,
Both my neuro and my surgeon said to keep migraines under control. But I’m not sure the migraine medicine helps the TN. Several take Lyrica. I tried it but was allergic to it. My last bout with TN that led to MVD started with an extremely bad migraine on the same day.

What do you think of asking for a referral to a Neuralogist? They are more familiar with the medications that can be known to work for TN.
