2 months post op for GN and TN

Hi! just thought I’d give a quick 2 month update. Some of you already know I had a MVD 2 months ago by Dr Ken Casey. He found four compressions 2 on my trigeminal nerve, one on my vestibular nerve and one on my facial nerve. I am happy to say I have made a lot of progress in the last 2 months. I no longer have the constant TN type 2 pain in my temporal lobe.I have no more ear pain.I am not on any medication. I have very minimal tingling in my left cheek at times for which I am using a topical cream called ketamine / keto/lido. I haven’t returned to work yet due to the minor balance issues I still have. I am a therapist and I work with a lot of patients with balance issues so I just want to be sure that I’m able to keep my balance before working with people that have trouble maintaining theirs.

I have a lot more energy, I have been walking 3 miles a day.Luckily we are having a beautiful fall in Wisconsin so I’ve been able to walk outside. Before the surgery, if it was under 70 degrees I would have shooting pain into my face and head when walking outside.

I feel truly blessed to have found this site and Dr Casey. Many of you have been such a huge support and I am very grateful.

Kathy, sooooo very pleased for you!! Awesome update!
Please keep checking in here to share your positive outcome and give hope to others!
Wishing you continued wellness, many ((( hugs )))), Mimi xx

Yay Kathy! Glad that everything is well at your 2 month mark - 3 miles WOW! I hope that I can do that after 2 months. Actually I told our gym manager that I would likely be back to teaching spin classes 6 weeks after surgery - we will see. Thanks for keeping everyone updated. Love the good stories :)!

I am sooooo glad you dropped in to help share the hope! Please update again and again! So happpppy for you!

So happy for you. Thank you for sharing such a positive update. It’s so uplifting to know others are being helped. Wishing you continued pain free days (years) ahead.

Thank you Ladies!! Today was an awesome day:) I was out for my walk, I walked a mile and thought about trying to jog. So I did, I jogged a 1/2 mile, walked more, then ran another 1 1/2 miles!!! I know running 2 miles is no big deal, but I am thrilled! Running has always been my stress reliever and to not be able to run for 8 weeks has been hard. I hope I don’t pay for it tomorrow, my incision site was a little sore, so I iced it and it’s better.
Mybell- it’s almost your turn, can’t believe you have less than 3 wks to go!!!

I know Kathy. I started to get a little nervous yesterday at the 3 week mark. I have to keep reminding myself what is on the other end of surgery and recover . . a life without pain and meds. I have so much faith in Dr. Casey and I am determined, convinced and just sure in every way that this will work.

I'm impressed with your 2 mile run! I can't imagine yet what it will be like to go 6 plus weeks without a real workout. I only skip a day at most and that is after like 7-10 in a row. Did Dr. Casey say anything to you about when you would be able to do strength training/weights? I'm imagining that cardio would be much easier on you after this surgery. I hear you about the stress relief - that's spinning for me :).

Thanks Marcelle! I thinks it’s pretty normal to feel nervous, it’s a huge decision. I wavered back and forth between, fear, excitment and possibly a little panic. It really helps to look beyond the surgery, don’t focus on that date or even the weeks after, look 6 months down the road and picture yourself strong, healthy and pain free:)

Dr Casey didn’t give me a lot of recommendations re:exercise post op. I just take it day by day, push myself a little harder each day if I am doing well and not having increased pain or nausea. I have been doing light resistance training with theraband and very light weights 5#. This is another reason I haven’t gone back to work. I do a lot of heavy lifting with the stroke, Parkinsons and other disabilities the pts. have that I work with. I just don’t trust myself to lift that much and maintain my balance at the same time, but probably in 1-2 wks.
Stay strong and confident in your choice, you are in good hands:)

Hi Kathy!! What a thrill!! Keep up the fantastic progress!! Each week will be better, and it will move faster now!! << hugs! >>

Wow Kathy that sounds so positive, He does sound like a wonderful doctor. I wonder if there is anyone in the UK like him? Keep well Kathy x

Thanks Tiff! Hope you are still pain free and loving each day!

Thanks Helen! I hope you can find someone like him in the UK or at least some relief!!! Don’t stop searching!

Kathy, what did you do to get an appointment with Dr. Casey. I live in Texas and would like to try to get him to do my MVD.

Kathy that's so wonderful to hear! And to be off all of your meds too is great. So happy for you!

Cookster- you can google Dr Ken Casey, or Oakwood Neurosurgery Center to make an appt. on the website or call his office. His email address ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■. I emailed him directly with a brief history, he’ll email back pretty quickly. Then I called the office to schedule an appt. Good Luck to you!! If you have more questions, I’d be happy to help:)

Thanks Deej!! So good to be feeling better! Hope you are doing great and full of energy!!
