11 Days Post MVD

Hi Everyone

I think its about time I post.I'm feeling so much better these days,I've began to eat normaly and my energy & strength have returned.

I'm going to start coming awake in recovery.I had terrible pain the nurses had given me everything they could (morphine, percocet, tylenol 3) I was still in tremendous pain.I was actualy scared to close my eyes ofcourse thinking the worse that I might not open my eyes again......I was terrified.I had stayed my 2 hours in recovery and was now sent to my room to do the best part of my recovery. After arriving to my room and being greeted by my wonderful wife I learned that the surgeon came out and spoke with Angie. She told me that he was very pleased with the surgery and told her he had found the problem very quickly and corrected it.I had a large blood vessel compressing the Trigeminal Nerve. He repaired this with Teflon and inspected for any other problems afterwards closing me up.

2nd day in hospital the team of doctors & surgeons came early in the morning to see my progress,I was still having terrible pain & nausiated drinking lots of water but not eating. The head resident asked if I was ready to go home......before I could answer my wife stood up and told them all I was not going anywhere do to the fact I had such a rough time since coming out of surgery.

3rd day in hospital I noticed my nose would run a slow run when ever i bent over or had my head in a downward position, this terrified me as I had read of CSF leaks.I never mentioned this to anyone until that morning when doctors came to see me.They actually were ready to send me home. They made me prevoke the leak so they could take a sample and ofcourse told me I was not going anywhere.I was then confined to bed with blood thinners & wearing tights to prevent any clotting. The next 2 days I spent in bed not moving very much.Let me tell you I was still very scared.Thank God the 5th day of my hospital stay the leak had stopped.I was then able to leave for home,I was very relieved.

It took another 5 days at home before finally I was making great progress.....eating,sleeping regaining my strength.

I have no TN pain my headaches have subsided I am down to 400mg of tegretol a day from 2000mg and in another week will be 200mg a day.I feel great with 1 exception.....I dont have 100% hearing in my right ear but I am confident in time it will return.

Please this was my experience and we are not all the same so what has happened with me may not happen to others.TN & surgery effects us all differently.

I am very pleased as to my outcome so far and I am hoping and praying things will get better yet.

So sorry for the long letter but we are people helping people.I thank all of you's for your great support and if ther is anything I can do to help any of you's please I would do so in a instant.....

Thank you so much Brian :)

Brian, You have been an incredible inspiration to me. The surgery isn’t an easy option and you don’t have pain anymore! Congrats on that. Can’t wait until you are off of your tegretal. That must be a wonderful relief. I’m so happy for you to be pain free and on the good side of this surgery. Congrats to you and Angie both. Enjoy Dee Dee and her puppy days. those are so precious. I hope you enjoy being home with them. <3 and hugs, Kristi (don’t forget I will call you when we go to the hockey hall of fame! lol)

Brian,
So glad to hear that you are doing better. Thanks again for sharing your experience with MVD surgery. I think I know what to expect. My surgery is on Friday. Hope you will continue to get better. My prayers are with you.

Brian,
Glad you are feeling better. I know it was hard. But maybe the worst is over. And no TN pain is great news.
