Working out

why is it that I am afraid to work out. can that cause
yb pain?

Whats yb pain? I do alot of running I was anxious at first but I find less pain doing that than anything else! Maybe the brain is too busy coping with the exercise to process pain?

I find the hardest part is pishing past the pain to get started. I like to read while on the elliptical, so I look forward to my time there. Reading takes more mental power than say listening to tv or music, but if I combine a favorite cd with a book I want to read, it’s even more inspiring. The benefits of exercise outweighs most arguments to not do it…but the pain we experience isn’t logical! It wants to have the upper hand it seems, so we need to find a mental workaround to get us through at least a few days of exercising. Once we feel the benefits of the increased endorphins, etc., we are well on our way. Give it your best effort, you will be pleasantly surprised!

It can only be to your benifit to keep fit.I run alot!! I can't run when I'm really bad but luckily that is rear.My face grumbles away all day every day.But is not bad enough to put me off.

You gotta give it a go when your feeling good and note down how you feel. There are other runners and triathaletes on here.Just yer average ones mind you.

Keeping fit keeps me emotionally and mentally fit.I have not been running over the last few weeks as I'm injured.

I was almost ready for the Brighton marathon in april.

I only have a parachute jump(Fot the Poppy Appeal)to look forward to.(I'm organising 20 other 1st time jumpers to if you fancy a go)!

Ditto Touie.Where are you baced.Running keeps me sane! :-)

I'm in Hampshire and did Brighton marathon last lear! I'm training for London this spring, and Snowdonia in the Autumn, my trainings been going very well so far, the hardest thing is getting going when my meds make me want to go to sleep! I've lost a bit of speed with them but so glad that I can still do it!

Thanks for the encouragement Lynda!! :)

Touie, When you can do that.. I can certainly do my treadmill!!!

Hats off you ladies, Jackie a parachute jump! ! xxx

yes absolutely!

Some of the people I run with have a laugh at me as I go out with about twice as much fluid as I need and pack painkillers just in case! If I do have an attack sometimes just holding cold water in my mouth eases it so I always carry lots of water just in case, I panic if i run out! :p

Exercising for me makes the pain worse for me the rest of the day.:( I was working out for an hr 6 days/wk before the constant pain hit me the beginning of Jan. Now I am really struggling!! I'm trying to force myself to do it. I did my first mini-triathlon in Sept and was hoping to do one again this year. But I'm not sure if I can force myself through it, unless I finally find some meds that work. This is so miserable!!!

I think exercise is SO important for us all — not only to maintain our physical health but mentally!! It totally keeps me going and helps keep my depression and anxiety at bay. I do a lot of pilates, yoga and cycling. I love yoga and pilates because it makes me feel like my body can do something awesome and its hasn't completely betrayed me.

You guys are all awesome being being such avid runners!! I'm a terrible runner.

Jessica I am thinking of taking up yoga but i am afraid that bending my head forward may trigger pain?

Bending over, downward dog, etc those types of poses don't seem to bother me. I do not lay on the left side if my face though if I ever lay down front first. I'm trying to think if I've ever really had any pain during class. Yeah the only thing I can think of is if I were to lay down I lay to my right to avoid my face touch the ground at all. I do not do any head stands or tripod poses or anything like that. I have been working on crow pose for months and I can finally get it — makes me feel awesome. I really set my intention at the beginning of class that this is going to be a safe experience for my body and sometimes it makes me cry — but it's the good kind of healing crying. And the class/teacher knows about my situation so I feel like embarrassed.

The other thing that I love about yoga is our teacher has us practice our "uji breath" which is just an awesome, deep breathing technique through the nose. I use that a lot when I'm in pain to help me "breath" through it and it really seems to help me out.

Keep me posted! I want to hear how you feel — cheers!! Jessica
