What's happening?!

I haven’t been on the forum for a number of months. Interestingly, in the midst of this flare-up, there were two email discussions, and I was reminded of a place to go to find support. All of a sudden today, the hard palate just behind my right front incisor and the right midsection of my tongue have become numb. My ATN has been exclusively on the left side of my face for the last 7 years. So, what is going on? Can it become bilateral? I’ve been having migraines on the right side of my face as well. They have been almost excusively on the left side by my nose into my eyes. I have now been diagnosed with both TN1 and TN2 on the left side with electric shock and burning in my lip, cheek and eye, and sometimes lower left lip. So, is this progressive? I’m now really confused. My neurologist is suggesting MVD as the compression was readily seen on MRI by 2. Neurosurgeons. Anywhere to go for more info on this new development? Was pleased to read about a successful MVD surgery, recently.
Thanks!

To answer your questions, yes, it is possible for either or both TN1 and TN2 to become bilateral. About a fifth of the membership here has pain on both sides of the face, most often at different times on the two sides. And yes, the disorders which produce this pain are regretfully progressive in many people.

If you're looking for a neurosurgeon, you might start with the Doc Appointment tab above. There are over 300 doctor and hospital references listed under the sub-tab on "Members Doctors". The Ben's Friends doctor list is another useful resource.
