Justus, as I read you comments in the site, I can understand your situation. I wasn’t familiar with the term gasserian. It sounds like what I had ,a rhizotomy. I had 2 last July 2016. The first one didn’t work because it was not strong enough. The second one did however but there are side effects. Since a month ago I am back on Tegretol one pill a day. Only because I was feeling a little ting. So just to be safe. My pain before was horrible. The procedure was done at John Hopkins in Baltimore,MD. It could be that your gasserian was not strong enough. Another talk with your neurologist would be advisable. That is one pain that is hard for people to understand. But I do. Good luck. Gloria37

Yeah it feels like my situation is undisgnoseable but a rhizotomy is surgery what I meant by gasserian is they just put a need in my face a nerve block but it was pretty worthless if there aren’t any nerve blocks for the optic nerve or nerve blocks that’ll work what kind of surgery do you think could get rid of my pain and with all respect please don’t say I shouldn’t have surgery lol because even though I’m 21 I’ve deal with this pain for 5 years and I just want it gone please respond back nobody can give me any kind of awnsers

Hi There -

Where are you located? Sounds like you need to see a surgeon that specializes in trigeminal neuralgia. There are quite a few around the country. Dr. Burchiel in Portland, OR is one. He is having excellent results, especially with young patients like you.

Migraine meds help my nerve pain in my face/jaw and shoulder. It’s certainly worth a try.
