What I'm reading

Haven't been on here for awhile but I'm reading so many posts about others having surgery and different types of pain medication, etc. Unless I'm missing them, I've seen nothing except my own post about Cyber Knife. This procedure is non-invasive. I had this done about 3 yrs ago. It took a few weeks before the pain went completely away, but I have NO pain whatsoever on the right side of my face. But I do have some numbness, which I can definitely live with. Please look into if you are suffering with this pain. I read recently that there is something being done before the procedure to alleviate numbness which affect some, but not all patients. Unfortunately, I now have the pain on the left side of my face. MY doctors have assured me that it has nothing to do with the Cyber Knife procedure; I'm just one of the unlucky ones that have TN on both sides. If it gets bad, I'll have Cyber Knife on that side as well. I'd rather walk around with numbness in my face than that pain any day!

Hey!!!! Really so It stopped! Me and my dad read about it. Took it to my doc. and he advised against cyber knife! He said my face would droop. He was totally against it. Is that True? Cause since the beginning I wanted to do this. Will you please write to me and let me know every detail ? I don't want brain surgery! I've read so many bad things about the brain surgery! I'm really scared!

I actually ended up doing this from my own research. I went to 2 different neurologists & neither one mentioned Cyber Knife. I hated the medication - tired, weight gain, couldn't think straight, didn't give a crap about anything. So,after reading about Cyber, I contacted a Cyber Knife center myself, made an appointment & met a great neurosurgeon whom assured me it was worth the effort, all the while letting me know some patients develop numbness. I went through with it. I still took the meds for awhile because I still had some pain. The dr told me that wasn't unusual; that the pain should subside. It did. I started feeling better but then a little over 1yr later, my mother died. After going through everything one has to go through, when I returned home, the pain hit me again. I called Cyber Knife, they saw me right away and told me they were a little baffled that it returned since the nerve had been "ablated". Theory was that all the stress and emotions I went through because of my mother dying, could have had an affect. I believe it did, because after a few weeks, I was able to wean myself from the meds & returned to normal. But as I stated, I've also started on the other side of my face! Nothing to do at all with the Cyber Knife. If I have to have something done eventually to the other side, I will definitely go with the Cyber Knife again. Not sure why your doctor would advise against it other then the numbness. I didn't read or hear anything about the face drooping. Mine didn't. Just the numbness which isn't that bad. I welcome the numbness over that pain any day. Sometimes my lips will "tingle" and once while relaxing it felt like someone or something was touching my face! But other then that, I've had no ill-effects - yet. You never know till 30-40 yrs most times how something effects a person. But I still thought better then invasive surgery.

Sometimes you have to take your medical care into your own hands. I've done that from the very start. I feel like if I didn't, I'd still be suffering.
