So since tn both types is pretty much some type of damage…has anybody had any luck in reducing pain ( I know its not a cure) by taking certain vitamins such as b12 or magnesium? Any vitamins that have helped you please share. When my pain first began it was threw the roof and I had read online about alpha liopic acid ( vitamin) repairing damaged nerves. I took it for maybe two or three months. It was so long ago and my pain was so bad I don’t remember if it helped or not. Now that I somewhat to some degree have my pain under control I’m curious if it would help now…as well as b12 etc. Thanx
No answer here, but I sure am glad to hear you say that your pain is even SOMEWHAT under control!
Haha thank you! I’m just comparing it to when it first started and I had no idea what was going on and I was on NO MEDS it was horrible
When is your surgery date again? Sure am praying for! I’ve been trying to have a much better attitude lately/ less crying and I must say it helps a tad. I’m seeing one last Dr next week a maxiofacial surgeon and after that I’m gonna just let it be what it is. I spent the last year of my seeing 17 different doctors and I believe I need to give myself a break and just enjoy life a bit without a different apointment every other week. I need to stop searching for answers or the “MAGIC” cure and just let it be what it is for a bit. Easier said then done… We will see what happens
Hi Jennifer,
I completely reached the same conclusion you have and trust me it really does help to have a positive attitude and kind of let things go. When my atn started I was in total crazy mode going from doctor to doctor and the pain was so bad I checked into the hospital. In a few days my meds started working and the pain was more manageable. I was in my last semester of law school and I couldn't even think about taking my exams, I was so emotional and depressed. My sister dragged me with her to her university so I could have a change in atmosphere and I remember sitting on a bench on the campus, it was a gorgeous sunny day and being around other people and I was like I want to live, you need to pull yourself together and make the best of this. Its usually easier said than done but it I found it helps to be positive and keep distracted. I've seen so many doctors in 4 different countries! and its shocked me how so many doctors dismissed me and mocked me, I would leave appointments in tears but I kept going till I found a neurologist I liked and who understood me. Ive let all the others go and now go see him if I need anything, I take my meds and go on with my life as best I can and try not to think so far ahead. This website helps too to connect with others who know what ur going through. You're not alone.
btw I take vitamin D which is supposed to be good for nerves, B12 and magnesium before bed as it calms the nerves.I used to take B12 injections but its hard to tell what really works as I'm taking meds.I've read people here recommend fish oil as well so you might want to research that too. Hope this helps. Hang in there!
Thank you tamzee ! I have left apointments in tears as well. Its all just so much. how long have you had atn? I’m atn as well. Do you think the vitamins really do help calm things?
It might be that the anti-depressant is helping you cope better. Sometimes it takes a bit for anti-depressants to get going in your system.

My surgery date is next Thursday, March 3. Thanks for all the prayers! I pray for you, too! Yes, please try to enjoy life, especially on good days when you can cope with your pain.
A couple years ago, I had a physical with my PCP. After routine bloodwork, he said my Vitamin D was slow, so I try to take that every day for that reason. The physical before that, my cholesterol was a little high (but not high enough for medication), so he suggested fish oil and exercise. I got a dog and walk him twice a day (and I am NOT an exerciser!). So, whether they work for TN or not, I don't know, but it sure can't hurt to take them anyway, especially because I don't drink much milk (lactose intolerant) and I won't put fish to my lips (unless I catch him in a lake!).

Jennifer years ago I decided I had to get on and live my life face pain or not…and I did.I was on a medication that allowed me to have good days and no side effects which was good enough for me! I developed a very positive attitude even when I was having a dire pain day…I sort of got used to the pain and carried on.I have worked in many developing countries and still do so my life hasn’t been exactly easy! Six months ago I had to wean myself off the medication as I did get a side effect and since then the pain has really manifested itself.I am waiting for an appointment at a pain clinic. The point is I could not have made the above decision if I had not been on medication so I think it’s very hard to decide to get on with life without some sort of medication.I couldn’t get on a plane at the moment but I know I will be able to soon! Your new found positiveness shone through your posting! Cheers!
Thank you everybody! Cindy Lou funny thing is I am completely off my antidepressant ( lexapro) for a week now. Of course I weened it. My Dr would not allow me to be on that and start the nortrip.
First good luck to CindyLou on your surgery. When I started acupuncture in Dec doctor put me on vitamin B complex and had me go for the Shingles shot. Prior to that I was seeing a nutritionist due to yeast and candida overgrowth in my system. The nutritionist also gave me different supplements after my diagnosis of TN. I was with the nutrionest for a year but had to stop due to the expense of both her and going to acupuncture. I have lost a ton of weight due to eating right and feel that I am on the right path at this time. I have read that the way I eat, nothing white no sugar very low carbs, also helps with TN. I was told my TN was probably caused by a virus and asked my nuro if it could have been the yeast overgrowth or the fact that my family has had a history of herpes, the cold sore type. He could not give me an answer. As I said before I feel lucky to have been diagnosed on first visit but hate not knowing what works because it can change. I wish everyone the best and hope they find the right path.
