Well, I have two things I would like to ask: one is can I rant about lay health in general in here (I was alway healthy until everything has fell apart in the last few months) and secondly, and this is a biggie for me, can I have a good old rip-roaring piss-up when taking tegretol (got a party coming up in two months)
Hi Michelle, you have made me laugh! In answer to your first question, rant away whenever you like. As long as you name no names and are not unkind to any of the members it's fine!
Unfortunately drinking and tegretol do not mix. I have seen Red say that when it comes to alcohol and tegretol, one and one make five. It is your choice of course, and I do feel sorry for you. We all want the life we used to have and just enjoy ourselves some times!
Yes you can rant. My family calls me a mess up from the neck up, so I understand. Unfortunately, as Jackie said, no you cannot drink with tegretol. Sorry hon.
As Jackie and Audara note, alcohol is a depressant and Tegretol has CNS depressant effects. So it's not a great combination, Michelle.
Other than that, feel free to rant -- realizing that sometimes you will hear things in response that are intended to respectfully and gently boot your tail toward more positive directions. We often to not have control over this horrid disorder. But we always have control over our own attentions and attitudes. And attitude is a tool for more positive health outcomes...
Hello Michelle,
I did not even asked, I just rant whenever I have a chance. Sometimes instead of helping others, I ended up complaining about other trivial matters .{ I hope other members don’t mind.
My doctor always tells me t0 avoid any kind of alcohol and I follow her advice. I do not want to add on more illnesses to my TN.
Dancer, Trileptal is still in the same class of anti-seizure meds, along with Tegretol and Neurontin. I wouldn't expect to see many differences in the cross-action with alcohol...
...to add to this, my neuro told me that Trileptal breaks down to be Tegretol in our bodies , it is just that Trilep has more tolerable side effects than Teg...then he told me to take the Teg for breakthrough pain between the 12 hours doses of Trilep...oh well; it does help, and I think my body is getting used to the med(s). not good.
