TnvTmj trying to figure out what pain is from which one

Think tn meds not working anymore or is this my tmj which i have been diagnose from clinching my teeth when pain would hit when i was trying to find a med that would work .pain is same but just in bottom of jaw shocking pain but with no trigger point like tn.

Not all TN cases present with triggers, Paul. \Possibly the best confirmation that you have TN rather than TMJ is if your pain has *ever* decreased in response to a short trial of one of the anti-seizure drugs. Even having said that, however, it is possible to have both at the same time. Normally, TMJ would be confirmed by other diagnostic signs, including clicking in the joint or verifiable wear patterns on the teeth. But the diagnosis of TMJ is still a very imprecise art. If you'd like to read a long medical literature article on "TN mis-diagnosed as TMJ" which lays out some of the medical process for deciding what is going on, then please send me mail at ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■.
