TN vs MS

1. Does anyone have MS and acquired TN as a result?

2. Doctors diagnosed you with TN or ATN but you really have MS?

I am not experienced with this but it is possible to have MS induced TN. There is a subgroup here for TN and MS and it could be good for you to join and ask the members there who will be a million times more knowledgeable than I will ever be. All the best!

Numbers I've heard for TN patients who also have MS -- including those in whom the cause of facial pain appears to be MS -- are on the order of 2-5% of all those diagnosed with trigeminal facial pain... I haven't seen that high a ratio in members registered on the site, but certainly there are several in whom MS was detected or diagnosed before TN pain emerged.

I am with my 3rd neurosurgeon who is now testing me for MS due to my symptoms and that 2 prior TN MVD and 1 Occipital MVD have failed. In addition, I have mirrored pain on the non-operative side. Meds are not helping. He wants me to try backing off all my meds except tegretol so he can try to add a ssri. If tests come out neg. for MS then he will consider that I have ATN. I should mention that I had ACM with a decompression surgery in 2006 and all of this occurred 1 year after the surgery. I was diagnosed in the 90's with pseudo tumor cerebri and all of my doctors feel that was an incorrect diagnosis, either it was the ACM, the TN, or now possibly MS. I now reside in Frustrationville.
