TN trigger times

Does anyone suffer more at certain times.
I do ok until around the 4-9 pm hours.
Then I get this pain like someone hit me in the face with a bat.
MRI shows blood vessel messin with the right trigeminal nerve so does this rule out atypical or should i think that tegretol is filtering out most of the pain.
Does atypical turn into typical ?
Curious Im just new to all of this.
so confused :frowning:

I’m confused too. It seems that everyone has differing experiences. This site has helped me so much.Mine is usually worse around 8 am and around the late afternoon/ early evening. When the meds are working I can sometimes feel waves in my face- leading me to believe that the meds are masking the pain. If you know you’re going to be in pain at that time, you could be proactive and take pain meds just prior to the onset. Sometimes it’s better to take before rather than during ( for me).

Best of luck,
Robyn

Hi Rick,
I find i have my worst pain at night and in the morning, nighttime i hate i cant sleep it wakes me so i just sit up an cry coz its so bad.
I get it a week at a time none stop pain every few seconds to min.
Mina =)

Oh Mina, I’m so sorry. Mine isn’t that bad right now. Meds are working for the moment. I know the feeling of being unable to sleep and just cry. There have been times I’ve been unable to stop myself from screaming out. I’ll be thinking of you and hope you have relief from your pain and are able to rest.

Nortryptolene and Flexiril help me sleep through those bad nights.
I know meds arent the answer but its getting me by.
I find out on Wednesday if they are going to wire me up for the jaw reconstruction.
Biggest thing that scares me is throwing up while be wired shut.
Possibly 4-6 weeks without solid food.
Things might be a little difficult for a while…lol

I have many of those nights too. I wake up screaming and scare my husband so bad alot. Some night I won’t even go to bed to try to let hime sleep. Definitely nighttime and early morning ate the worst for me.

Hi Rick,
Most definitely my worst times were 4 Pm to 11 PM, I got off work at 4 PM but sometimes I didn’t make it that long. And then it was a rough trip trying to get home. Most nights I took a sleeping pill as soon as I came home hoping to sleep through the pain or get more rest (fatigue is a trigger). But as the pain worsened then it was an all day any time day event. I couldn’t tell what triggered it because it seemed like the electric shocks hit even when sitting as still as possible. A sheet couldn’t touch my face. My pain was definitely typical but as I continued to get worse then I got atypical pain also. But I think you should definitely consider surgery since your MRI shows a blood vessel. Have you see a neurosurgeon? Most of my pain now is probably the atypical but I still get the shocks every day but most of they don’t rate much higher than a 2. The neurosurgeon and neuro agree that I should not decrease my meds because if I am still feeling the pain on the meds, then decreasing the meds will cause the pain to be worse. So as much as I hate to be on the medicine, I am so thankful for the surgery and thankful for the pain relief I got.

Robyn,
I think the waves you describe is what I call activity or flutter. Some may call them spasms. I agree that they would be painful but because of the meds I don’t feel them.
And I still take more medicine when I have an activity planned in hopes of preventing the pain. I started bowling in my league this year. I missed all of last year because of the pain and surgery. But I have been unable to dance. I think that is just too much for me still. I contra-dance. Do you all know what that is?

hello,

i’m going to interpret your MRI narrative as meaning you have a demonstrated blood vessel compression on the trigeminal nerve. the issue of typical or atypical is irrelevant. you have a compression, and this is likely causing your pain. compressions can manifest pain in all different ways. an MVD is your best treatment option for pain relief with a demonstrated compression.

seek consultation with a neurosurgeon as soon as possible. avoid destructive procedures, including gamma knife. you have a compression which needs to be removed off the nerve. where are you located?

the researcher

The MRI showed a small vessel near the nerve which could be contributing to my symptoms.
Thats what the report said.
I live in oklahoma city

you could inquire with the university of oklahoma’s neurosurgery department. teaching hospitals have the advantage of access to higher quality surgical equipment and senior surgeons who have experience with complex cases.

have you seen your MRI report or did the doctor just tell you the results? near is not on the nerve. a compression needs the vessel to touch in order to occur. if you have the report, i can read and interpret it for you. you will need to type out the area where it says “conclusions.”
