TN and Celiac Disease

I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. There has been a link b/t gluten and TN.
Has anyone else been tested for Celiac?

Hi Karri, I didn’t realise there was a link. I have a low-grade gluten intolerance. I knew that it might be contributing to my osteoporosis because of malabsorbtion issues. What is the link all about? Is it related to B vitamin deficiencies such as reduced thiamin to the nerves? I do take supplements.

I am not a doctor but celiac can cause neurological distrubances such as migraines and possibly TN. I don’t know the whys but I have been on celiac boards and a lot of people said once they got rid of gluten, their migraines went away as well.

I also suffer from anemia, hypothryodisim, migraines, fatigue, naseau, vitamin D decifincey and anemia. Throw in TN in there and celiac makes sense.

I am on day three of being gluten free and so far feel better but only time will tell.

Thanks for the information! I’m going to look further into the gluten connection. I’d love to hear how you do with it. .

That’s interesting Karri, because I also have hypothyroidism, Iron deficiency and B-12 deficiency. I’ve never considered that they may be related to my TN. And they may not but interesting, nonetheless.

Oh I am not saying that Celiac causes TN but there have been some interesting links made. I have atypical TN and the doctors can’t find a decompressed nerve not to say there isn’t one. I have many bad weeks but normally I have tingling in my face. I did notice that it is less but not away. It could or could not be related to gluten. TN is such a funny disease in that there is no rhyme or reason.
If I don’t take my thyroid meds, I notice right away as I am cold and tired. Its very hard to say if something is working for my TN b/c it is so random.

I wish every pain free days.

Karri, this is very interesting because I have been told I am gluten intorent but lately I have not been very good and eating gluten. I does not make me sick when I eat it but know I shouldn’t. I do not take anything for TN. I have also been diagnosed with MS but my only symptom is the TN I have. I have had this pain for 22 years but diagnosed 12 years ago. Any severe pain was gone after I finally started getting NUCCA Upper Cervical treatments and taking lots of vitamins. Would just once in awhile get a little shooting pain to remind me I still had it. Now I am wondering if those pains could have come after I had eaten some gluten. Last 6 mos, I have been eating more gluten than I ever had and 6 weeks ago, pain returned. I am now getting back to chiro treatments. Thanks for this tip as it will get me back on track with my diet.
