Do the shocks that you all get run horizontally, vertically or both?
I can't tell if this is TN pain or maybe the start of a migraine....
I got a shock up my nose 2 days ago (in the nostril on my TN side) that brought me to tears. Last night I got a shock that ran thru the back of my eye to my cheek bone and into a tooth that has been root canaled and capped.
That is usually how mine runs.... From my ear to my jaw, and my ear to under my eye/cheekbone. Maybe those shocks in my nose and eye were misfires. lol! I shouldn't laugh because they hurt so bad, but I don't know what else to do.

My electrical jolts run vertically up the right side of my face--from an upper tooth area(root canaled) into my right eye. The small ones I call, "Zings", because they feel like a rapid electrical zing shooting up into my lower eye area. A few mornings ago @ 4:00, I had a rapid succession of the jolts that lasted about 20 seconds. The pain was pretty bad and I was very frightened that it wouldn't stop. I was cold and shivered for about an hour afterwards--a response to the pain I think. The next day my Lyrica dosage frequency was increased. I have had one hard zing since.
Min, I frequently have a little zing-especially in the morning when I wash my face first thing. I can touch my eyebrow or anywhere on the rt. side of my face and a zing shoots through my upper cheek, by the nose and into my eye. Sometimes it happens while I gently dry my face. I don't dry the right side of my face any more! Ha, ha. I even put off washing my face until a little later, if it fits into my schedule. I am not too happy with how TN has affected even the smallest tasks of daily living. I am 67 and was diagnosed less than a year ago. I need to join the humor group I saw on this site. Min said:
Did anyone ever have little ones..( I mean like baby ones) /upper cheek/ eye area by the nose??
Dixie~Yes. I hear you on the not too happy part. I have ATN and I have only had one big shock in decemeber 07. But since May 10' , I would get those little ones.. and they weren't really really painful, but I wondered if TN1 people get them. Now I haven't had them since I have been on Trileptal tho.
I have been on a waiting list to see a neurologist at the Mayo clinic, Jacksonville, Florida, since last November. I was diagnosed in Oct. by someone in Miami. In the meantime I am on Lyrica and feeling dumber every day! I read someone on this site said that their "IQ was going down by the minute." I feel that way, too, and am not happy about that; especially when I am out "socializing" with friends They do not know what I am dealing with and probably think I am getting old and stupid. Oh well, I would rather be stupid than having pain. But, Yes, as a TN person, I get the shocks.

I get small zig zags like Min decribes. Mostly from my hairline down to my upper lip. The eye - lower nose is the worse area. On occassion my nostril gets the pain like what you describe Jennifer. On occassion it even gets extremely numb, almost Palsy-like That's almost as bad as the pain because it feels like something is pressing on it.
Horizontal, Vertical, zig-zag or a combination - You're going to hear it all on this site.
I have had before medication hot bolts of pain on right side, right corner of lips. Sometimes on right side, near eye tooth some horrible pain small zaps in tooth. I also have wear it feels like my teeth are twisting. Like someone is in your mouth twisting your teeth around. horrible!!!! Meds take that away, but once in a while they break through.
My shocks would run along the right upper mandable, sometimes around the nose.
Brushing my lower right teeth, and the shock would go through right hand middle branch over the upper right teeth or the right side of my nose.
The real kicker is that the trigger point would move, and after awhile the shocks were more consisitant.
I had MVD, so it is done for now. I have 2.6 years to go to be out of the woods for sure.
If you have some capsasion cream 1 or 2%, and you know whare the trigger points are, the cream will burn a bit, however it can keep the trigger areas from causing issues for a few hours. (Over stimulating the trigger sites this way can provide tempory relief for the shocks!.
