On 04/23/13 I underwent a Thermal Rhisotomy after two failed MVD’s. The TN on the left side of my face was 100% controlled by Tegretol and Gabapentin but the meds left me feeling like a zombie. The Rhizotomy has left me with the left side of my face from my forehead to below my chin and behind my ear completely frozen. It also includes the inside of my mouth and tongue. It’s as if some mad dentist has gone crazy with Novocain to the left side of my head. Had I known this was going to be the result of the procedure I would never have had it done and been satisfied with the meds. I can only hope that some of this feeling will subside with time.
I would be interested to hear anyone else’s experience with Thermal Rhisotomy.
Hi DieselJimmie,
I’m not that familiar with the procedure, but I have read others mentioning the same outcome initially. I searched and found this link from a year ago.
Type it into our search box. I’m sure there will be more info from other members.
What does your doctor say?
I hope it subsides and you start feeling more yourself.
(( hugs )) Mimi
My first follow-up appointment with my neurosurgeon is not until June 2nd. I was just trying to find out if others who have undergone this procedure experienced similar affects in the weeks following it. I’m really wondering what I’ve gotten myself into if there is not some degree of relief to the intense felling associated with it. The worst is the felling of Novovain freezing in mouth which include my cheek, gums and tongue. It is making eating extremely difficult. I was expecting only the left side of my face to be numb above my lip and adjacent to my nose where I experienced the attacks of TN, not the entire left side of my head. I know I may sound desperate but believe me I am. The thought that this is the way it’s going to be is just a little bit too much to deal with.
