Hello All-
Has anyone experienced forgetfulness (severe), confusion, fogginess, and general slowness while on Tegretol? I've been on it for 3 months, and I'm still having these issues. Normal, or do I call the doc?
Thanks!
Marcy

Thanks Jackie. It’s a relief to know it’s not just me. And yes, it does do a great job on the pain part - so I should just be grateful! =)
It’s not just you! If you look up some old discussions using ‘word recall’ or ‘memory’ as a search you should find some great discussions from a few months back. I cite these because there was a great deal of responses from a large number of members.
What, are we on Tegretol, oh that’s right, what? Maybe not that bad but yeah it has wagged my mind out, once had a memory like a steel trap, have to write most things down now to keep my self in order for what I am doing.
Thanks for the replies -- I will do that search Elaine. And also thanks for the good humor, Jerry. =)
I think the strangest thing is having false memories. I remember something, in great detail -- but it never happened. I feel like I'm going crazy.
Marcy I think we all have had the feeling of going crazy. Don’t worry we are, but that is world we live in and heck everyone is going a little crazy. We, however, have an excuse. I don’t know what is wrong with the rest of the world.
Hi Marcy,
Absolutely but it will get better. I have found it is essential to take tabs after a good breakfast like a good Irish breakfast. If I don't I'm in big trouble like it has the same effect as if I had 4 drinks not nice regards Bernie
Thanks Bernie. It does mean a lot to know that I’m not the only one. My family thinks I’ve totally lost my mind. The benefits are there too. When I forget things I at least have something to blame! =)
Hi, I also have the memory problems. I have to write stuff down at work all the time now. I really have to concentrate when driving, thank goodness I don’t have far to travel. Don’t think I could cope with a long journey. Still the upside is it masks the pain which I know is still there as I feel the dull sensation of the pain. My teeth also still feel like they don’t belong to me. Quite an odd feeling really. Just like having had a filling every day. x

Hi,
I am having daily accupunture this week as my pain was way out of control, I cannot believe how much better I am
feeling. The improvement I am told by my family and friends is evident on my face. Just thought it might be of
help to someone out there
I have problems coming up with words I know I know, but can’t come up with in the moment. Don
Hmmm, I wish I knew caused all these issues for me, I take Tegretol for two reasons now and I am diabetic, and I thinking that this problem is worse being on the Tegretol but this is the absolute last drug I can take for a mood stabilizer and now this TN crap! I have to watch my liver enzymes and I must have them checked again and if they elevated, I am screwed…but my chiropractor has helped me immensely…here is the memory problem for me…I want to retrieve a piece of information at the moment I want it and it does not come, it comes moments later…it is really frustrating.
Wow, you mentioned your teeth…I can no longer eat as I once did, it is really weird…and I have to have a tooth pulled as well that decayed underneath a crown…imagine that!

OMG…that was my life on Tegretol…I had post it notes everywhere! I have Fibromyalgia also, i thought it was fibro fog, but when i brought it up to the dr he said it was the meds, now that I am weaning off the meds, I am thinking much clearer!
I’m just weaning up on tegretol now; I’m on day 5. I’m hoping once I’m at the full-prescribed dose this fogginess passes …
Why are you coming off Tegretol? Are you trying something else?

Good luck Wrigley. I’ve been on it for 4 months now, and no changes.
