Symptoms and Side Effects

I suffered for 6 years with the shock like pain that only increased. Last year I had Gamma Knife done. That in itself brought a new group of issues but I am glad I did it. At the time I had Gamma my TN symptoms had become so bad I was a walking zombie for all the drugs I was taking. I would have made a junkie proud! (Sarcastic humor)

After Gamma, I found I had lost my sense of taste, my skin hair and nails were brittle and dry. I have short term memory issues. A few months after the GK I started having the shock like pain when I would eat, there was a low front in the area or I was menstrating. Oh and I hate wind...Live in Kansas! This has now come to the point where I am talking to a neurosurgeon about having the Microvascular Decompression done.

Has anyone had the MVD done? What are your thoughts? What other symptoms and or triggers have you experienced? Have any of the women here found the pain to be worse during menstration?

Glad I found this site. I don't feel so alone in this now. My family and significant other try to understand but as you know, unless you have it, you just can't imagine.

Yes, Bobbie, exactly. I started a discussion when I was new to this site, asking if anyone's pain was worse during "Aunt Flo's" monthy visits. I got so many replies. It looked like a resounding "YES" from the ladies of LwTN, to me.

I have no personal experience regarding MVDs', because, as of right now, my Neurologist does not recommend surgery. I'm going for a 2nd opinion. I just haven't decided where yet. (the place where I can have the type of MRI I want done). But, there are so many people here who have had MVD, I know surely someone will jump in.

We're glad to have you here as well. I'm glad you don't feel alone now. That is what this site did for me. You are right. Even though I have a amazing support from my Dad and a great fiance, no one except for the people I have met here understand this rare condition. But, over 1,000 people have joined now. I think together, we can gain a better collective knowledge!

I could tell there was some sarcastic humor behind that smile!

Hang in there,

Stef
