Surgery over

Hi everyone,
This is the first day I’ve felt well enough to write. Have had nausea and a pretty bad headache but seem to be improving a little each day. I haven’t had any shooting pain but to be honest i’m not sure what pain is healing pain right now and what isn’t. That side of my face is numb and it feels like i am wearing an ear plug. My MRI had shown a compression but when he went in he didn’t see a compression. he ended up moving some nerves and pinching one. It doesn’t sound good and i dont’ like to think about it too much yet. Just using all my strength to heal. I’ll write more when i feel better! Thank you everyone for your support.

My thoughts are with you. I hope you heal fast and with minimal pain.

Hope you feel well, soon. Stay positive.

Hi Jamie,
Good to hear from you. I hope your pain is gone and what you are feeling is only healing pain. The surgery does make one tired. Actually I was exhausted. I had surgery on Tuesday and on Saturday I took my mother to some garage sales. She loves them. She was staying with me but she doesn’t drive. We were out about 5 hours. When I got home that afternoon, I was so exhausted I thought I was going to die. Needless to say, we didn’t do that again. Actually I hardly went anywhere for the next two weeks. I slept for hours at a time.
So get rest and write when you can.
Liz

so glad to hear from you jamie. glad to hear your pain is getting atleast somewhat better. i have been dealing with nausea and vomiting for 2 days, completley delpleted and afraid he will put me back in the hospital. i go to him in the morning. may just be a drug interaction , well see. i had to go in for a catscan today and it was normal. thats odd, my mri didnt show a compression at all but when he got in there it was definitely compressed. take care of your self.

Please let us know how you are Vicki. I hope you are feeling better today. Had you been feeling pretty good before the nausea hit?
Liz, I cannot imagine going to a garage sale! I am coming up on one week tomorrow. Still exhausted most of the time and very weak. Pain in head is better at times. After sleeping for 4-5 hours at night in a flat position, my head is killing me and I have to sit up to try to sleep. Plus, I am constipated…bad. I don’t mean to whine but I think this recovery really sucks. If I heal, regain my strength, have no, or minimal, pain it will all be worth it though! God bless all of you and hang in there. We will get through this and come out on the other side, happy and healthy and ever so grateful.

Hi Jamie,
How are you doing? I’m hoping every day gets better.
I was stupid to go to those garage sales. I paid for it that night. Magnesium really helps with the constipation. I was never constipated before surgery but I haven’t been normal since and it has been a year in April. You can purchase it where the vitamins are stocked. My surgeon prescribed them. Also I’ve read where magnesium can help with nerve pain.
I was so fortunate. I never had a single bit of pain from the surgery pain. I still had the TN but it is very controllable. But I was also numb on the back of my head and in my face. I never had any nausea. I did have a slight aggravating headache for a couple of weeks. And I had exhaustion. I believe I slept almost all the time during the first two weeks and most of the 3rd week. I went to work for a couple of hours the 3d week (my boss really had something she wanted me to do) and I worked part-time the 4th and 5th week. But it really took months for me to get over being tired.
Take care. Let us know how you are doing.

Liz

Thanks for the advice Liz…things are going better in that area…Also my headaches and nausea have improved. I want to buy and plant flowers today (it’s gorgeous outside) but I am still too weak and tired to do that. I am one week out though and so glad last weekend is OVER!!!

Hi Sabrina.
Thanks for checking on me. I read your post about going out boating and being in pain ever since. I’m sorry. I know how you feel though about trying to go out and have an normal day like most people take for granted and then suffering for it. I felt so much better at the beginning of this past week so Tuesday night I went on a power walk with a friend (like I always used to do) and suffered with pain for a few days after that. I talked to the nurse and she said even after four weeks I shouldn’t be bending and lifting or power walking. She said walking is fine but that I must have over exerted causing pressure on the nerve. She said I need to “lower my jets”. haha. Anyway, I took it easy for several days (feeling depressed) but have felt better this weekend. We’ve had lots of graduation parties so I spent the day talking and laughing. I don’t have much pain right now so HOPEFULLY I am healing. I still wonder if I will ever return to normal and have the strength to do the things I used to do without experiencing pain. All I can do is hope and pray.
How are you? I hope you are having a pain-free weekend. My prayers are with you.

Sorry to hear this Sabrina. I am feeling really wiped out and having pain after a very busy and fun weekend. I start to feel better and then overdo it…:frowning:
