Has anyone else recently experienced their doctor suddenly discontinuing their CR opioids and replacing them with short-acting ones? I have been stable for several years on Oxycontin 10 mg every 12 hours, with 5 mg oxycodone up to three times/day if needed for breakthrough. I didn’t have breakthrough every day and rarely ever took more than 2 doses of the breakthrough med in a day. I was living a fairly decent life with my pain level down to a tolerable 2-3 most days. Now suddenly my doctor D/C’d everything and prescribed 5 mg short acting oxycodone 1-2 tabs twice per day. Although the dosage is the same (20mg) is certainly does not work the same and there is nothing for breakthrough. I have been miserable for 10 days now and feel like I constantly chasing my pain…when I do get some relief, it only lasts for 1-2 hours. I am at the end of my rope already…since it took 5-6 years of try & see to finally find something that worked and didn’t give me intolerable side effects.
Anyone else had this experience? What did you do? I am feeling desperate.
All they are doing is punishing those of us who follow the rules and have honest pain problems and the abusers are still managing to find drugs to abuse and OD on!
