DO ANYONE GET A REAL SHARP PAIN

Actually, Yes! I do. I've seen doctors about the pains I get before, simply put by them - it is referred pain. It is not a real pain in your arm, but kind of like the TN, a pain that you can feel but isn't really there.
I've also had referred pain in my left chest over my heart, in my sternum, my collarbone, breastbone and once in a while it'll appear in my thigh.
Sometimes these referred pains start before the face pain, other times the face pain is first then the referred pain - but also sometimes they all start together.
I will get highly sensitive skin over my breastbone below the neckline occasionally - so I have to be careful what clothes (material) I wear as if I wear the wrong thing or have to wear a seatbelt in the car - the skin burns like I'm in flames. But again, the pain is just felt there - it is still not real.
They have a name for this type of referred pain, I'm not sure I think it's "ALLODYNIA" not sure if thats the right word or spelling even, but I have this allodynia thing ALL the time with my TN.
Don't let it freak you out - it usually is nothing - but it is and can be just as unpleasant as the TN sometimes, othertimes it's just a nuisance.
Doctors haven't got a clue why I have allodynia - just tell me that I have it, but somehow it is connected to the neuralgia - but all my doctors were puzzled by this.

this is a surprise to me too.Ii have suchsharp pains in my right arm (same side as TN) that they make me gasp. I did not know they were connected. How bizzare!! But I do not follow with the face pain like you do.

Hi Sally, Jackie - I know what you mean. When it first started happening to me, I also thought I was having a heart attack or a stroke - sometimes I'd go to the ER, cause the pain in my arm or chest stayed there while the TN attacked me and it became unbearable at times - they freaked out and I got priority treatment and put on an ECG machine to check my heart - and every time, nothing wrong.
But if you ever get worried, like I still do - there is nothing wrong with getting a doctor to check it out! If you are like me, you don't want to take extra risks - so I will still go to ER if I get worried. It's been happening for a few years now for me, and still they find nothing wrong with me - aside from the TN attack - so that is always a huge relief!
But this surprises me that you 2 also get these sharp pains - you 2 are the first other people I've met, that also get Allodynia with their TN!
Sally, I'm very glad to be able to reassure you - I'm just sorry that you and Jackie both also feel this pain too! TN is bad enough with the extra add on pains... :(

No, not a sharp pain but my left hand up to about halfway to my elbow gets numb & tingly quite often. This is the same side I get my face pain on. I’ve wondered if it was a precursor or coincidence.

Have you mentioned this to your doctor? It's an important symptom. It may be tied to the TN or it may be something else. I've read that numbness and tingling is a Multiple Sclerosis symptom. Additionally, I've read that many MS patients have Trigeminal Neuralgia. Both conditions have the same origin...damage to the myelin covering of the nerves. You should request testing for MS, but also be aware that an MRI does not always find the proof or source of MS (and TN) so don't ever let a doctor tell you that because of one MRI you don't have MS or TN. Do an internet search for MS symptoms and see how many you have and talk to your doctor about it. Hope this helps.
