Sensitive to medications

Is anyone else very sensitive to medications? I started out taking Tegretol but one pill made me a walking zombie. My neuro switched me to Neurontin and I’m very lethargic, incoherent, have difficulty concentrating, etc. I’ve always been sensitive to meds. I can’t even take Benadryl or NyQuil without feeling “drunk” the next day. I’ve been on Zoloft and Lexapro in the past for depression and I was constantly tired. Just wondering if anyone else is highly sensitive to meds and if you’ve found a medication that helps.

I take Gabapentin (Neurontin) and was fortunate to have doctors very gradually increase my dose. My first dose was 100 mg. for a week, 200 mg next week, etc. Going in this way I did not suffer side effects until I had to drastically increase due to progression. At my current dose 2100 mg I am pretty lazy/lethargic and lose words/cannot concentrate, etc. It does beat the pain. In the past year, my pc added Cymbalta for depression and recently Nortriptyline to help with TN2. I did not notice any negative effects from either.

Im going to post a list of our favorite meds

Talk to your doctor and work with pharmacist

Sometimes you need 2 meds

Or one good med with a topical like lidocaine!

Increasing very slowly does help. I go way slower then recommended. I am on Nortrip. and will only increase by 10mgs every three or so weeks. I wait until some of the side effects dissipate and I am feeling like I can function first. I find this also helps to truly know what dosage is working--it seems to take two to three weeks to feel full effect...for that med anyway. And unfortunately sometimes it comes down to which is worse--the side effects or the pain?
