Scarfs

hello all my dear TN friends...

I started cutting apart my antigue crocheted doillies....making strips and then hand sewing them together and making scarfs and shawls...so pretty and such a special touch to hold close from aunties and grandmas...I even purchased a wedding dress at a thrift shop and used some of that fabric and lace which added yet another look....dye it in strong tea for a hint of natural color....you will love them...

that sounds so pretty!!

Oooh....I hope we get to see some pictures soon!

I agree, they sound so very pretty. Could you take some pictures. How do you finish off the edges that have been cut? Would love to do this as I have a lot of antique dollies. I can only use so many in my house. Thanks for you great idea.

simple over and under stitch...and it does not show....so anything works...just small stitches. I have now been looking for thrift shop doillies....what a blast...I plan to make many for other support groups but tn definately with our facial issues need to be covered...HAVE FUN...ps yes I will try to take snaps for you all...

Laura,can’t wait to see them!

Another place that is good for finding any doillies is garage sales. I find a lot of them if you get there early. They are popular items. Do you use just crocheted doillies or some of the linen or cotton doillies? I am trying to figure out how you are making them since I have so many. I have been trying to think of something to do with them so any other ideas would be great. I also have lots of old hankies. There again have to think of something fun to do with them. Sitting all day ( because of pain) and doing some needle work always helps with the pain. Great distraction. Thanks again

Sounds intriguing. Love to see the pics too.

I roll the edges or ends as many different fabrics are being used..a machine is not so good..

the bulk gives you more support...I am using now baby flannel from the grandkids blankets. that part is great to use as a lining under the doillie...and that part is usually on my face and neck...lol I do trim around the tatted or crocketed lace portion or pattern and then lay them out as long as you prefer them to be....and keep adding other fabrics as you see fit..I have so many orders I cant believe it...now I am getting some girls together to make them...and I will sell them...for support groups. my specials are being kept in the family for certain...as for those on sale...yep I even purchase crocheted types of place mats etc from walmart....they are perfect. keep the iron on cool as you will continue to use that more than anything around...Just use any finishing stitich for any edges...it all depends on what style of lace or chiffon etc that you use..I love southwestern styles and shawls so I tend to do a combination of that plus victorian...lol its fun fun fun....
