I had a root canal done last week and everything felt as per normal as far as TN pain goes and all of my worries of increased pain were gone. Today I have an achy pain that comes and goes and it hurts to talk and move my bottom jaw forward. I have no pain when I open my mouth wide . It is not my normal electric, shocking pain but a burning, achy pain. I think it is TMJ and it is from opening my mouth for so long during the root canal, but why after a week? Sorry for the silly question but I have never had a root canal done before.
I don't have the electric shocks with the dose of tegretol that I am on right now. I have the burning in the ear in the evening. The numbing was gone by the afternoon.
The burning is my lower jaw.
Hi Collette,
As far as TMJ goes, you may experience problems days or weeks, maybe even months after you had dental work done. The TMJD often develops gradually over time (unless you suffer an injury, whiplash etc.). I must have had TMJD for quite some time before I noticed something was seriously wrong with my jaw. I only noticed when a few days after my root end surgery, during which I experineced no problem at all, I woke up one morning to a really bad pain, my jaw deviated to one side and my teeth would not meet any longer. I remembered I was clenching my teeth during the surgery, which lasted around 40 mins...that was probably the final blow for my TMJ.
Thanks for your reply. Does the TMJD go away and if not what do you do if anything to alleviate it? My face is less achy this morning but the burning in my ear has already started this morning -- usually it comes in the afternoon or evening.

maybe (just maybe and ask your doc. about it) - anti inflamatorry (such as ARXOCIA) will work for this kinda pain.
i , for example is tired to understand "where" my pain comes from... too tired and exausted... whather it's good or bad - it's like i've stopped fightheing.
Nir, how are you? I have been wondering how you are since you had your teeth/tooth removed. Did it help the pain at all? Has it made it worse? I do hope it is no worse. I remember you were going to try meds for the first time in a long time, have the began to help? I often think of you and you must know that we all care about each other.
Nir,
You are always willing to offer advice and you are suffering so much. You are amazing and I am so sad that you continue to suffer.
I will call the dentist on Tuesday. It is a long weekend -- Canada day!

Collette, good luck with the dentist, will be thinking of you. xxx
Hi,
Just wanted to update all of you. The TMJ is gone and the TN1 and TN2 remains after the root canal. I seem to have more burning but I think it is because I am not wearing a tube across my face as much because it is hot here now.
