Wow -- do you have meds?
Can you get prescription lidocane -- topical from any of your doctors called in to pharmacy?
There is also lidocaine for inside your mouth if that is where pain is.
Keep posting!
Yes, I have had two remission periods and am now wondering if I am in a third. I'm glad I found this discussion topic and might post my own related to this.
I had two very long remission periods in my 20's. I first had TN pain when I was 20ish years old. It lasted for several months and I was diagnosed with tension headaches at that time. Coincidentally, maybe, I started taking Paxil for depression and anxiety around the time that the pain went away. I had another recoccurence of TN pain in my mid-20's. I remember being at work and having to rush into the back office to lay down on the floor, cover my eyes with a pillow and laying as still as possible while having terrible pain. Again, mis-diagnosed. Pain came back in 2008 and was much worse than the prior two times and I was finally sent for an MRI which showed a vascular loop contacting my trigeminal nerve.
I've been on several different medications and am now taking Tegretol & Lamictal along with a few others. However, over the last several months, I have had a great reduction in pain. I haven't made any med changes, done much differently, etc.. I am really happy about this! I still have some bad pain attacks but they are very infrequent and don't last nearly as long as they once did. So, I am wondering if a remission is around the corner.
Does any of this sound familiar to you or to anyone else? I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop in the winter as my pain increases due to the cold weather, most often. I'm hoping for the best, though. I'm finally able to do a little work now, and am taking it slow to ensure a continued lack of constant pain.
Don't know if this helps you in anyway with your question but that's where I am at. I won't change my meds as I mentioned but will keep praying for another short-term miracle, if possible. Best. Johanna
I know this frustration. I took Tegretol for a few weeks and when my pain disappeared I figured I was in remission and stopped taking it. I seriously thought I would remain pain free for a long time, if not forever.
Fast forward 3 months and I am really close to going back on it. I guess remission is over. I do get nauseous from the pain but have never vomited. Do you have headaches also?
