I was wondering if anyone whose then answer to this question. The pharmacists I have dealt with lately seem as if the first thing they want to do is to grab a pen and a highlighter and begin doodling all over my prescription before they know if they want to fill it or not!
For the record, I have not turned in a single prescription too early, or that was a duplicate. In other words, I never do anything dishonest in gaining, or having my prescription filled!
Until the pharmacy converts your prescription into medication, is not that piece of paper, which your doctor provides to you, technically your property? If so, why do they feel they have the right to de-face your property?
Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts?
One pharmacy did this to me this month, and my doctor printed me a clean copy to take to another pharmacy! Still another did this, and I had to explain it to the pharmacy I took it to next, who thankfully understood that the pharmacy who marked on my prescription was in error, and filled my prescription correctly.
I wonder what makes them believe that they have this right.
I wonder if you have the right to request that they not de-face your prescription unless they are replacing it with exactly what it calls for while you wait?
I havenever had that problem but I have a friend who is a pharmacist and I will ask him about it. This sparked my curiosity as well. I don't know why they would do that to your script.
I wouldn't have asked, but this is not the first time that this has happened to me. I am careful now to specify to pharmacists to return the prescription to me if they are unable to fill it. They do not have ownership of my prescription unless I give them the go-ahead to fill the prescription. To do so, I make them specify a date and time when I will be able to pick up my prescription and get the name of the pharmacy staff member whom I have spoken with and have left my prescription with.
I've had more trouble with pharmacies lately than anything. My doctor has been very understanding and helpful.

No, in fact, they do not have a right to mark your prescription than anything other than a date of birth until they know if they can fill (at least in my state). You have every right to tell them not to do this. Now this might vary state to state. Please call your state's pharmacuetical board! They will be able to tell you definitively in your state.
This happens all the time in NY. The minute I hand anyone my prescription they write on it then they let me know if they can fill it. Now I say, please don't write on it until you're sure you can fill it and they usually don't. It's incredibly annoying.
I haven’t clue on this. The techs only can write my birth date and phone number on it. I go to the same pharmacy every time due to living out in the boonies though and the staff knows who I am. I think it is going to depend by the state though. This is due to the crack down on those wonderful abusers and pill mills. You might have to check with the state pharmacy board like Lisa stated. Really though I do not think they should be marking up your prescriptions if they can not or in some areas will not fill it. Personally I’d be po’d about that. Sorry your having to deal with that.
