Pulsed Radio Frequency Neurotomy- Pain Stopped!

Hello all

I have Bilateral Trigeminal Neuralgia with type 1 on the right and type 2 on the left.

The type 2 has been playing up recently with pain levels up to the 9's and 10's

The type 1 chips in now and again with the ice pick just in case I was feeling anywhere near OK.

I started to get Occipital Neuralgia symptoms as well.

I did the usual rounds of endless trips to the Nuro MRI's and then back to my surgeon.

He suggested that I see a pain specialist and try PRFN, or Pulsed radio frequency Nurotomy.

I had the left side done a month a go and the right side done yesterday along with a nerve block for the Occipital.

When I woke up from the first procedure it was like a switch the pain was GONE! (the hospital was cold so the TN both sides was flaring up before hand)

The right side was still bad but the left that had been operated on was sorted.

I has some post op irritation but it was minor.

Yesterday I had the Right side done and the nerve block done and when I woke up I refused drugs and felt (Still feel) fine.

This is a better outcome that the MVD I had in 2006.

I am now starting the procedure of reducing all the Meds and looking forward to a clear (ish) head.

The procedure is repeatable and there is no limit to the times it can be done.

I am interested if anyone else out there has had this procedure and with what success?

Hi again all

To add to the above, I did a lot of research before doing the procedure

I could not find much that relates to the procedure I had as it’s still new.

The Doc did not treat the TN Ganglion as per normal and as per other treatments but treated the TN nerve closer to the nose, on my chin and on my for head for all three branches. I have slight marks that show where the needle went in.

I found many publications like this: http://www.e-algos.com/radiofrequency-pain-treatmen/

But these state that the ganglion is treated.

The lower temp is correct at 42 deg © so less damage is done.

So I am very interested if any one else has had this treatment and had the success that I have had
