Prep for MVD

Ok I have a very silly question. How much hair is usually shaved in prep for the surgery? I have very long hair and am wondering If I should cut it off or if maybe i will be able to cover the site. I ask this because I am a director in an assisted living community and am involved with the public on a regular basis. Thanks for your replies and forgive me for asking a vain question.

Oh I was totally the same way!! I'm super vain ;) My scar is much smaller than I thought + the actual amount of hair shaved was much less than I expected. I would keep your hair as is and it will just cover up the incision. My hair is very short so they just shaved a chunk , but I have seen incisions on people who have longer hair and they just saved literally a 3 1/2 " x 1 1/2 CM wide space ... so just tiny. This is what I look like 8 weeks later ...

My head was shaved alittle more than Jessica’s. I had hair to chin length and thought about getting it cut short before the surgery. One of my co-workers told me maybe I should keep the longer hair untill after surgery. Really glad I did because the upper hair hung down and no one could see the shaved area. It took a year for the hair to grow out so I could blend it with the rest.

It's not a vain question sweetheart. I too was worried about chopping off my hair! I didn't cut any of my hair. They did it for me for surgery and it was only a 2 1/2 by 6 in shaved portion. My hair was just past my shoulders. You couldn't tell that I had anything cut unless I lifted the top layers of my hair! It also took about a good 6 months to get a nice new growth of hair. Best Wishes with whatever you choose.
