I saw a new neurologist today and he’s keeping me on tegretol, taking me off the neurontin and switching to lyrica. Wondering if anyone’s had any positive experiences with lyrica that they could share with me… Thanks!
Just started lyrica 12 days ago. Side effects are better than Tegratol for me. I’m relaxed, calm, in a better mood/frame of mind but also dry mouth and loss of appetite. I took 1 tegratol (200mg total) and 6 Lyrica (450 mg total) and lidocaine ointment today. Best day I’ve had in ages. I was even able to shave without too much pain.
I’m also confused about various dr saying different max dosages. Most common I’ve seen for Lyrica is 300 max, one website I found said 600. My dr said 300 but if we need to we can go higher. He was thinking if switching me to valproic acid. Ever try that?
Yes, I can now honestly say that after almost 3 mo.s lyrica at 200 Mg.s adage has helped my migrains about 75% which is AWESOME I was having at least 2 a week! It hasn't helped any of the tn pain.I am so glad it helped something.I am also om150 Mg a day of amtriptaline, that helps some of the burning boring, aching. The weather is chaing on us again and every time it does my tn2 pain goes absolutely crazy! When this happens nothing helps my tn2 pain. Sometimes, especially with tn2 I think it can sometimes take a little while to be sure if different meds. are going to work or not and what meds. work for what. I need something for breakthrough pain. I have not a clue at this point what I need to do. I 'll keep reading and I am sure I will come up with something there is plenty to read. This group is so GREAT! Have a pain free rest of the night.
Pierre I was reading about all the different doses of lyrica you looked up and checked into.. I did also and drs. must have totally different web sites they go to and show you where it says Max is 200 Mg Aday.That's. what my old Dr. said I start seeing a new Dr. in Sept.It only took me a couple weeks to adjust to the lyrics. It just made me feel loopy and a little more goofy then usual (ha!) Wishing all a pain free day!
Lyrica made me work my job… I was soooo drunk on it!
I’ve been on 600 lyrica/day for years. It replaced neurontin for me and was easier to take because it’s longer-lasting and so I didn’t need to take it so often. It is as effective for me with less side effects. Controls the TN pain. Not so great with TN2 pain, but then nothing is, is it?
Today is not a good day, but will count my blessings. I have been on lyrics for about 4 mos. now at 200 mgs aday at which my gp. said that was the hugest we could go.I guess I don 't understand when I have noticed here does all over the place.I will see what the new Dr. says in Sept. The lyrics has been really good for my eye pressure pain its not gone but its at least 70% better! It doesn’t do anything for the constant burning, boring, etc. Ya all know! Just in the last 10 mind my pain has went from a 5 to a 7! I would like my amptriptaline dose is at 150 mgs a day.He also showed me. So I don’t know anymore what to do. Any suggestions? Hope everyone has agood day with as little pain as possible. Dawn
i had an allergy to tegratol, so lyrica and gabapetin worked for me, but only for a couple months and then just stopped!my dose was 75mg/5 times a day with the lyrica, and 300mg/3 times with gaba
Hi everyone,
I started on 150mg of lyrica and then within the space of a couple of months, moved up to 600 mg of lyrica a day. Was on 200mg 3x a day. Also tried Tegretol but had a really bad allergic reaction once I hit 600mg so had to come off that very quickly. Was told that 600mg is the highest that I can do to. It didn't cure the TN pain, but it helped it. Tegretol really really helped but then couldn't take it. Was using the Capsaican cream and that helped except because I was wearing a scarf around my face, kept getting the cream in my mouth and eyes (that was no fun).
I'm now off every thing as the TN pain is now gone after having the glycerol injection. I have occasional jolts but nothing that makes me want to lay down and just die. However, I've got TN2 pain (not diagnosed by anyone but me - dr's keep saying it's afp - who knows). Need something as the weather is changing and my face is hurting and my eye feels quite strained, and there is a very very odd feeling in my face. So I'm writing a list of medications now to take to the next consultant appt which is in just over 2 weeks time.
I've tried different medications including tramadol, naproxen, ampytriptaline and various other things. Now looking for something else to help. :-) However have been told that lyrica will not help with TN2 pain - but then not sure what will.
Lyrica absolutely helps my TN2 pain. It and Cymbalta are all I am on. I literally would not survive without it. It helps as much as when I was on Neurontin for years. It’s only better because I can take it less often as its longer lasting and I can take the dose in 2 pills instead of 6. I so wish I could get something that controls the TN pain completely or even 80-90%, that would be great. Marcie, I think you and I are on very similar paths–I wish you all the best. I’ll let you know if I find anything that helps.
Lyrica has helped me. Gabapentin's side effects were too much for me. I was on 900mg. Now I take. 300 mg gabapentin at night, 450-600 mg oxcarbazapine and 75mg lyrica 3 times a day. I was able to go back to work for the sole reason of reducing gabapentin and adding lyrica.
I have been on Lyrica for a couple years now. So far it’s been one of the few drugs I can tolerate. It also helps with another illness I have so its bit of killing two birds with one stone. Hooray less medication to take or it least has been for me. There some draw back with this medication but those out weight the problems I’ve had with so many gosh dang medications. Give it try it might be what works for you and might not, but you’ll never until you try it.
Thanks for replying guys. I’m just so frustrated. Lyrica doesn’t seem to be working like gabapentin was. And they both seem to be making me put on weight… With my wedding in a year, I really can’t be dealing with weight gain. The tegretol and gabapentin combo worked to totally eliminate my pain, but I put on 10lbs in 10 weeks. Now it seems I’m up 4 lbs since starting lyrica. I eat super healthy and I changed my workouts so that I’m doing less weights and more cardio and it just isn’t working. I want to be pain free, not put on any more weight and lose what I’ve gained on these meds. So frustrating. I am so angry and sad right now just thinking about it all. I feel like I don’t have options. I feel like I have to go back on gabapentin and just “accept” weight gain. I’m not okay with it.
