Does anyone else take them often? Do you ever get off them? I have been Dx'ed with TN 1 and 2 for almost 3 years now and am in constant pain. My neuro had never really seen TN before and I think he did google searches during our visits. All he ever did was changed me from Tegretol to Triliptal and back again and increase the dose. Thanks to an ER doctor I was given Gabapentin but I have had to ask him to increase the dose of it. My neuro does not like to give Lortab. He makes me jump through hoops and then lowered the dose and amount he gave me even though I never abused them. I have now moved to another state and am waiting to see a new neuro and I was wondering if anyone else had the problems getting pain medication and if there is a chance of getting off of them. I hate taking them. I can't drive on them and I forget things. I used to be a nurse and now I am a stay at home. This disease has taken away my whole life. I can't even kiss my husband. Sorry, just venting I guess. I feel helpless with the pain and having to ration pain medication to be in so much pain I can't stand just to be in a fog where I can't think.
Hi Michelle we actually have a group for those members who use opiates, you can find it by clicking on the groups tab above ( upper right). I’m sure you’ll find many helpful discussions there.
Opiates never worked for my pain, so I’m sorry I can’t help you. Don’t worry about venting, we all need to vent every now and again especially here where we understand each other.
(( hugs )) Mimi
Will your new neuro have TN patients …experience…really a must…there are at least 30 meds to try…I have a list if you want…I hated meds …had MVD surgery got my life back
Are you a candidate for that?

My primary care has been terrible at prescribing opiates which are the only thing besides the Tegretol which helps my pain. He treats me like an addict and seeker, even though I've submitted to numerous med counts and urine tests. He has repeatedly told me he is not comfortable prescribing the medications that help. I want to yell, "What about my comfort level!" I have found that going to a pain management clinic has been a huge help. They are used to dealing with opiate prescriptions, at higher doses. I still do random urine drug screens, but I have no problem with this. My neurologist does not prescribe pain medications of any kind, but they are fine with pain management doctors prescribing medication for me.
I understand that it has taken away your whole life. I have GN and for two years have been in wretched, daily pain. No one besides my husband understands, and it's still rough on him. I mostly stay at home, fight depression and anxiety and wonder why no one knows why we get TN and GN. My husband lost his job so he could care for me, which is hard because he is disabled and has chronic pain and migraines as well.
I am going in for MVD surgery on Tuesday, but if you ever want to talk or vent I'm usually close to the computer. I know it's hard, but you're not alone.
you sent back a post here to me but - it was empty! Did you want the list? Are you an MVD candidate?
If you are foggy - is there somebody else that can read this thread for you?
KC: Ack! I am new to blogs. I thought I replied to you, but I guess it did not take. I do not know if I am a candidate for MVD because my Neuro never said anything. I have an appt with a new neuro in the new state I live in who specializes in TN. Yes, I would love a list of medications I can try. Thank you!
RueAnn: How do you get in to a Pain Clinic?
I looked up who my insurance accepted and also asked my primary care who was no help. If need be call pain management clinics in your area and ask if they accept your insurance.
