Hi friends,
Here's a little success story of Alternative Medicine, I'm happy to share.
On May 2nd my Neurologist asked if I wanted to `try' getting off Neurontin (300mg daily). I was happy to try, under the cover of my homeo medication Magphos and another mineral. The tugs and pulls above my teeth and nasal area continued but were tolerable with careful biting, chewing or wiping of face. I experienced a day of three flare ups 3 days after Neurontin was stopped. I became more conscious of what could've triggered the flareups. Violent rubbing of the nose or scratching an itchy palate ( I have a history of allergic rhinitis) with my tongue.
I checked into a reputed Ayurvedic Institution in South India to work on a 21 day holistic in-patient treatment for my TN with the sole objective of making it go away - for good!
On examination, my allergies, chronic sinusitis, thickened mucosa were also seen as possible reasons for my situation. The biggest reason attributed to the sudden onset of the TN flare ups, was immense stress. I was under acute stress at the time of onset as a loved one was hospitalised indefinitely without a diagnosis.
I have been on a thoughtfully structured course of Ayurvedic panchakarma treatment as well as medication since the 16th and I feel 80% better.I was off my homeo meds too, while under Ayurvedic Treatment.
Treatment started with getting the whole body prepared for the intensive treatment, followed by a whole body detoxification and nourishment. Medication specific to my malady was given according to a fixed schedule.
It seems to have fixed my sinus problems with a lot of success. I've had Shirodhara (pouring of medicated oil onto the forehead), Khseeradhooman (inhalation of medicated steam) and Nasyam (pouring of medicated oil into the nasal cavity followed by inhalation of medicated fumes). There was a course of Ayurvedic massages (the names are pretty tongue-twisting!)- some to detox and some to nourish the whole body.
16 days into the treatment, I've not experienced any flare-ups save the sensitivity in my right my cheek and a couple of teeth. Again, as any alternative treatment, Ayurveda requires tremendous faith and thorough research of the Ayurvedic Institution. An understanding of the logic of Ayurvedic Medicine helps in making the treatment work for oneself.
I hope and pray that this is a permanent fix and will not relapse. I am not sure which way my TN would've gone if my Neurologist had not suggested trying to get off my meds. But I can confidently say that it was well worth the try:)
I would be happy to share any details. Do email me.
My best wishes.
